We slept through the night. With me facing Molly's bed the entire night, although I'm sure that would wake up if she stated to cough during the night. She didn't. In fact, when I woke up she was laying upside down on her bed, in the sun, with her head hanging off the end. Eyes half closed when I went over and was gently giving her belly rubs. (she is soooo adorable in the mornings, especially) Still the real test would be when she ate her breakfast and I'm happy to say, she went outside, did her business, came in and ate just over half of her breakfast (that's normal for her), with hubs and I watching her every bite and nothing. Not a cough, not a whimper, just a lip licking good experience from what I can tell. Had some water to wash it all down and that was that. Molly is obviously fine.

Last night, when she got the piece caught, she sat right next to me, while I rubbed her back a bit, but was still distressed, so I woke hubs from his nap and said look up doggie chocking, see the procedure for dislodging it we can do, but it looks a bit tricky, with possibility of her sternum being damaged doing the heimlech maneuver, so we decided to take her, plus every few minutes she was still trying to cough it back up (reverse sneezing). She continued to do this all the way there and would hang her head down, so I knew it was causing pressure to have her head up at the time. Not a normal thing for molly to hang her head for any reason, she is always curious about whats going on where. I figure better safe than sorry, and there is a chance that something stuck in the esphogus can make a tear and require surgery, or that it won't move on it's own and would have to be manipulated using the scope. The doctor said if she threw up after her breakfast to come back in and they would go straight to scoping her or if during the night she tried to drink and threw up, same thing, come back and they'd scope. She said she'd be there all night if we needed her, we could also call if we had any questions or worrying signs. So that was very nice and caring of her.

I'll be going to see if I can find smaller glucosomine treat for her today.

Anyway, just wanted to update everyone that she is okay.

    hugs all,

Oh my gosh Sharlene!!!! What a scare for you and hubby!! Very relieved to read your update today that she is doing fine. You know, occasionally Jasper will seem to kind of choke on his food, or a treat for just a few seconds, and that is scary enough when that happens. There have been a couple of times where he would kind of hack intermittently for 5 minutes or so, trying to clear something. Usually I never know what causes that, but it is scary also. Hope you all are having a good day.

    Hugs,
    Tina and Jasper

    Sharlene-
So, so glad to hear little Miss Molly is okay! That is not fun at all! Hannah once had a rawhide stuck in her throat. It was HORRIBLE. I still have a vivid memory of it. She was foaming at the mouth and couldn't breathe. We still lived with my parents and I drove to the E vet while my mom tried to help her. We thought she was going to die. She got it out in the car and we did the same thing-xrays and watching her like a hawk. It was really traumatic. I no longer let them chew anything without watching and taking it away when it gets gooey.

What a good feeling to see Molly sleeping and eating happily. I'm so glad she wasn't hurt or in any more pain. Sounds like you were lucky to have a great vet too! Woo-hoo! Give Molly an extra hug and tummy rub from me tonight. Hopefully you will all have a more restful, uneventful night tonight!

Thanks all. Molly is still doing fine and I haven't noticed any issues with her throat. She hasn't coughed any more at all, no reverse sneezing, no scratchy bark sounds either and she did bark today so that is good. She was barking at a leaf that she wanted that she couldn't reach and was determined needed to be torn to pieces. I guess she feels pretty good. I'm not giving her any more of those particular glucosomine treats any more either. Even though they are malleable and not hard, she obviously doesn't chew it up enough. I'll have to find another something small.

Oh Julie, I know exactly how scary the rawhide can be. That was the first thing Molly ever chocked on, my husband was away, she was about 2 years old, and I kept putting water on my finger and giving it to her and then we walked and once she walked she coughed it up. I didn't know what to do, I'd never had a dog choke before. She is also very aggressive with rawhide, she'll actually bite you if you try to take one away from her. She isn't allowed to have any rawhide at all any longer. I don't know what I would have done if she hasn't been able to breathe. That would be horrible, I'm glad your mom was with you to help you get Hannah to the ER and that it all turned out okay.

Molly has had lots of belly rubs today and hugs and kisses. She's starting to run when she sees me coming. I think she's trying to say enough already mum. I'm fine!! ROFL
