    Default Prednisone Acetate Eyedrops

    Hi All.......

It's me again. Hope this finds all of you doing well.

Question: does the long term use of prednisone eyedrops cause any new issues in a dog already affected w/Cushings?

My friend & her Boston Terrier w/Cushings needs to know. Her vet said it would be fine but she's still concerned.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanx in advance.........

Giving prednisone over a period of time, whether it be orally, topically, ear/eye drops, etc. will mimic cortisol in a dog's system and the symptoms of Cushing's will return. Sometimes, though, there are no other options because prednisone seems to help with so many health issues.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Will pass the word along............this is what she thought & why she was so concerned. They want her to put drops in for 6 months. She's really afraid to do that.

Thanks again for all your help...........

I would agree with Lori as my Zoe has multiple eye issues and her ophthalmologist has made sure not to use any type of steroid eye drop with her. Sometimes, it may not be able to be avoided.
