    Default "Glad" To Be Here

My dog, Chancey was just diagnosed this past Saturday with both Diabetes and Cushing's Disease. Needless to say that having both of these makes managing them more difficult. Any help and information that can be passed on to me would be very welcome. I tried checking Amazon for books and there were only three listed for Cushing's and none had very high recommendation. So, I need all the help I can get!

Hi and welcome to you and Chancey!

It can be quite a challenge to unravel a diabetes/Cushing's diagnosis since so many symptoms are shared by the two disorders. This is further complicated by the fact that the diagnostic blood and urine tests for Cushing's can render false "positives" in the face of diabetes. I don't know whether you've already seen this article, but I think it will be of interest, it's titled: "Diagnosing Cushing's Disease in Dogs with Diabetes Mellitus" and it's published by a nationally-known endocrinologist, Dr. Mark Peterson, here's the link:https://endocrinevet.blogspot.com/20...e-in-dogs.html

I also want to include a link to our sister site where they deal with diabetes in dogs, here's that link: http://www.k9diabetes.com/forum/ Now you'll have the best of both worlds!

Can you tell us what symptoms Chancey is displaying? And what diagnostic tests were performed? Could you post all abnormal findings from the tests that were done on Chancey and please include the reference ranges and units of measurement?

You can find excellent information about Cushing's in our Helpful Resource Forum, which is located here:https://www.k9cushings.com/forum/for...Cushing-s-Dogs

Please do not hesitate to ask all the questions you have and know we are here to help in any way we can.

    Hugs, Lori

I am still trying to figure out this site. I thought the "article" section would give me some good information about Cushing's but it says I do not have access to be there. Where can I find info on Cushing's on this site? Also, I know I posted this original question but now I can't find how to post a new question. Help!

You post all questions and comments in this thread. That way you and we have Chancey's history all in one spot VS spread out over countless threads like FB works. You will find this is much easier to keep up with his info. Over time this will become a sort of diary of his journey with Cushing's.

I'm not real sure why the Article tab is even there; I think it simply came with the format but we don't use it. As for where to find information, you can use the "Search" feature to look for threads containing specific words like "diabetes". In addition, you will find some good info here in our Helpful Resource section which serves as an article section for us -

Here is a good link to get you started on learning about Cushing's that is not in the link above -
