    Default Vetoryl in Australia

Hi, max my 11 year old silkyxpoodle had cushings. He's been on 30mg of vetoryl for almost 2 months, but the vet wants to increase is to 45mg due to high results with the ACHT test. My concern is that we have been charged...$145 for the first box of 30 tables, $153 for the second box (price increase apparently) and now because there is no standard 45mg capsule, they want to get it compounded, which will cost $198 for 30 tablets. I'm more than happy to give him the capsules as even the 30mg has made a huge difference, but is there anywhere in Australia that is cheaper than basically $200 per month? Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome to you and Max! I apologize for only having a moment to post right now but I did want to tell you that, unfortunately, we have heard similar complaints from other Australian members regarding high prices and few options for sourcing.

Since you are needing to seek out a compounded product, you might try contacting an American compounder used by a number of our members. They are called Diamondback Drugs and are located in Arizona. Even though they may not be able to export the medication themselves, they may know about a reliable compounder in Australia who you might contact. Here is Diamondback's homepage:

In the meantime, we would love to know more about Max's health history including his Cushing's symptoms and diagnosis. Any details you'd care to share will help us provide additional suggestions and thoughts.

Once again, welcome to you both!
    Marianne

Hello and welcome to the board.

I know prices are very expensive in Australia for vetroyl, they are here in Canada too.

I have contacted one of our members who is also in Australia to see if that pricing is about right along what she pays too.

I think you can get it trilostane compounded in Australia too, but I'm again unsure of the costs.

    Hi

I am in Australia as well - on the West Coast where I am freezing my tootsies of at the moment My girl has been on the 30mg Vetoryl for @ 9 months now and I have always paid the same price. I pay $109 plus some cents for the pack of 30 tablets. The 10mg tablets are just under $80 for 30. My girl has had to have hers increased and after her Stim test next week I will probably have to get the 40mg as her Cortisol has increased. I can find out what my vet charges for those if you want. They have never mentioned any price increases to me and I have been going to them for over 17 years now so am quite friendly terms (especially now that I am such a regular thanks to the Cushings!!).

I remember somebody asking about getting Vetoryl in Australia on a FB page and I found this place that supplies it - at what seems like a good price

    http://www.petceutics.com.au/vetoryl-capsules-30mg.html

Obviously somebody in Australia would know about compounding pharmacies better but I have found a couple - but I know nothing about compounding pharmacies

    Smile Re: Vetoryl in Australia

Thank you all for your responses. Originally once the dosage was determined, I was going to order the vetoryl from petuetics, however...that is for standard dosage only...10, 30, 60mg, not the 45mg which we will now be trying. I ended up going through the vet for the first lot as we are just about out of capsules and I don't want cost impacting on my little boy.

I have now emailed 2 of the suggested compounded pharmacies requesting their pricing. The other two won't provide pricing without the prescription first. I can guarantee it will be a battle with my vet to get this prescription as he will argue we need to get the dosage right first.

At least I now having a starting point and can consider other options other than purchasing only through the vet.

Thanks again for all the help.
