May 4, 2012 Diamond Pet Foods today announced that it is expanding a voluntary recall.

This recall involves Diamond products, but many others manufactured at the plant in South Carolina, including some of the higher end food -

The list of affected brands keeps growing! It's very worrisome that the same companies continue to place pets at risk. How many recalls, deaths and injuries are we going to experience before these companies put effective safety controls into place?

Everybody please be aware that this recall was prompted through detective work linking sick humans to exposure to contaminated dogfood. To date, fourteen people in nine states have contracted salmonella from contact with dogfood, bowls, or just handling their pets. Pets may not develop any symptoms at all, but can still harbor and transfer the bacteria to their owners. So if you yourself should fall ill to severe diarrhea or GI distress and have had one of the recalled bags of food in your home -- please take your illness seriously and seek medical advice!

Wow! That is scary stuff. Thanks gals for keeping us informed. Princess is still on Acana. I hope they are not affected by this serious recall.

The recall is expanding, kind of scary. Seems it is all dry food but it contains some brands we use to trust.

That is certainly awful but I gotta ask - where was the FDA previously? I oversee the production at a food manufacturing company and these kind of inspections are ROUTINE and it is unfathomable that these conditions existed in this day and age. Heads should roll with the previous inspectors as well. This didn't happen over night. Wow is all I got.
