Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
That is so funny Sharlene. Lets hope the tooting does not turn liquid. It seems every time I give CoCo something different he has soft stools so have to be careful for a few days. I took all my decorations down quickly during the holidays while I had time and my doctor was still out of the office. Have a good day. Love, JoAnne

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Patty, molly would totally say "kiss my butt mommy" if she thought it was going to get her that Xmas tree back. (it won't)
Trish, good idea about the plant, but we have plants, tall ones even, she is not interested. :(
Oh, one interesting thing, my sister said her dog (golden retriever) maddy, laid under her tree too. Must be a family thing. (Maddy's first christmas with my sister, as she took her in when her original family was going to get rid of her and my sisters dog had just passed away)
JoAnne, no squirts here. She's fine now. Whew! I am not a fan of the runny things.
hugs,
Sharlene

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
So here we are, having a wonderful spring day and tomorrow too, although with rain, before something the weather folks are calling "brutal cold" hits us. Ugh, I don't like that phrase at all "brutal cold" Molly will Not like it, although thank goodness, her hair is growing back from the last grooming session. I said, don't go too short, they did of course go to short. She hates wearing her coats, so hasn't been too happy with the cold weather.
Today I took her for a walk, and she found a christmas tree someone had put out for garbage pickup. I had to practically drag her away. Nothing else really does it for her, but she LOVES pine trees of all kinds. Yews too come to think of it, and will happily smell them for ages and ages.
I was just commenting on both Tipper and Shysies threads about snoring. I've decided Not to panic about possible fat distribution causing it. Could be, but she did just have an xray and that wasn't mentioned. However, she has always snored and I was thinking, yea I snore too. Then I remembered that one night, when Molly was on the floor in her bed, my husband was having a rather loud snoring event. (it really was worthy of being called an event!) anyway, it woke me up and it must have woke molly up too, because she lay there for awhile doing her grumble growl, it's a sort of humph, humph, blow blow, growl. When he didn't stop, she got up, huffed and puffed about it some more and went underneath the bed to I guess hopefully find some dark and quietness. ROFL It killed me and I went back to sleep chuckling myself silly over it.
I should add that Molly often grumbles about things that bug her, like if the tv is on too loud, or the bedside lamp is too bright. She grumbles at us. If we don't go to bed when she wants, she'll lay on the stairs and grumble, although, now she has fixed that by going to sleep on the couch and needing to be carried up the stairs, because you know it's just too exhausting for her. If she thinks we are going up to bed and she runs up the stairs and then we don't show, or we go up and come back down, she'll lay in her bed and bark till we Do come up.
Talk about bossy dogs that run the house. Our Molly could give lessons!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
hugs,
Sharlene and the ever bossy Molly Muffin

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Zoe snores too, has ever since she came to live with us. If I dont here her snoring I get worried if I wake up in the middle of the night. I did notice she snores less when I give her the melatonin or Tramadol. I decided not to worry about it either.;)
Molly rules the roost, no getting around it.:):):) Its the lhasa in her, they are bossy and stubborn. ;););) but then the shih tzu side keeps her sweet. Besides, any little girl as pretty as that should get her way:):)
Did you see Susan's cute sweaters from Chantel (Etsy)? I might have to go shopping later.
-
Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
I did see the sweaters!!! They are sooo adorable!
Do you have the website for the Etsy sweaters? I'll take a peek.
I know, they get away with everything due to that cute factor!

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Fraser used to snore too! But I noticed when he started Trilostane that he stopped. It scared me for a while, I would wake up and have to check his breathing. Gotten used to it now though but I do still find myself watching to be sure.
As for jumpers. Don't know if they are available over there, but I bought my boys some beautiful "Hamish Macbeth" pyjamas for winter. Super soft and really light but warm. They actually didn't mind them on the single occasion that I put them on! And of course, a Sottish Terrier X must be seen in tartan! Of course now, with record breaking heat down here, it isn't an issue. Our 10 day Christmas/New year average was 39.5 degrees, (103 Fahrenheit), and though a few cooler days have come since, we've still got another 2-3 months of that. It's been pretty warm so far this summer. I'm actually looking forward to the day jumpers become a consideration for us again!

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
a scotty in a plaid sweater, love it, of course I love that you say "jumper" too:D:D:D:D:D

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Since Boriss is a smooshy face he has always snored... I would be lost without that sound in my bed at night. It hums me to sleep like rain.:D
Molly you are a smart little girl. You seemed to have whipped your parents into shape. Just the way you like it. :p
Boriss likes to grumble too. My other dog Pearl likes to growl at Boriss if she is trying to sleep & he is moving around. It is so silly.. She is really really sweet. but, you mess with her when she is tired & she is a grumpy girl. She always gets in trouble for it cause it scares Boriss. But, it really is kinda funny.
Poor Molly... Hopefully it won't get TOO cold. I would hate for her to have to wear a coat. She is just such a ham.. I love her personality.

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Sharlene, thank you so much for your support and posts on Jasper's thread, I appreciate it more than I can say. I laughed so much about Molly grumbling about various things. My Mom has a little shih tzu that does the exact same thing! She does that until she gets her way about whatever it is. My Mom lives in Texas, and sometimes when we are talking on the phone I can hear her dog doing that grumbling, Mom says its because she wants her to get off the phone! It is hilarious.
I also want to let you know that Jasper snores also. He has always done it to some degree, but I do think it has increased over the past few months. I didn't really think too much about it, but now I wonder if it might be related to the issues with his nose now. Hmm... I am going to try to not worry about that.
As far as your weather, it was 50 degrees here on Friday, and yesterday and today in the teens and 20's with wind chills in the negative. So it has felt brutally cold even though it has been sunny. Hope that is not what is heading your way!
Hugs,
Tina and Jasper
PS your title now says Moderator, I think that is new, right? Is that a promotion? :D I noticed it for Addy also, wonder if that is new for her too.
-
Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
That is it exactly Tina! They make a sort of, not a real growl, but more like a urr urr ..... urr urrr noise in their throats. Smarty pants dogs. :D
Oh, good catch! Yea, it's a brand new thing for me and Addy. Can you believe they left the side door open like that and we sneaked in! :p
They said we can stay and we've agreed not to break any of the china. ;)
Aww., we love you and Jasper and Shelby! Worry like the dickens if we don't hear anything from you for too long.
oh dear, that dog is in my shoes again. I gave her carrots for the first time. As long as we share, she seems to be okay with it. Although makes a bit of a mess.
They didn't have any green beans (i went late to the store) so I grabbed some wax beans, but that she is not fond of. I cut it into a small bite size, and even ate a piece myself, but all she did was crunch it, spit it out and then play with it. Maybe I need to cook them or something. Not sure, but I can try.
Now I need to figure out what fruit she can have. She does love bananas.
I think that is the cold stuff that is heading our way. :( Addy had ice this morning, yesterday she had flowers trying to poke through. :( Big Ughhh!
Hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

Ooooooooooooo moderater Sharlene and Addy, I guess I have to watch my p's and q's around you both now :D:D:D:D:D:D You both very deserving with all the support you provide everyone who wanders in here all distraught about their pups. I cannot imagine this place without either of you or the gorgeous Molly and Zoe :):)

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
LOL!!!!!!! oh goodness my girls have behavior "issues" when I am on phone....Shaddix paws, and head butts me and tries to roll her nose under my arms and hands, Shysie is ohhhhhh good mom is distracted i am gonna investigate forbidden areas. or maybe she is thinking GASP is she seriously not giving me 100% attention right now..........fine......i will be naughty. lol.
shysie LOVES her little coats. Course long story but she has often had to wear little sweater or coat from when she was super super tiny and we lived in Kansas. What is cute is when it is a girly blingy oh so sweet innocent type coat and then she acts all beasty bad be afraid be very afraid to things. Its like a care bear gone bad type image. lol
-
Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Oh I love that visual of Shysie! Girlie and ferocious!
Sounds like yours a hand full when you're on the phone. Molly takes times when either I'm trying to read (which usually involves a nap) or I'm on the computer to come over and huff and puff at me till she gets my attention and then grabs a toy. I cannot resist her with a toy and she Knows it!

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
I have a very strong theory in regards to names, that similar personality traits run in names. Think about it, how many people do you know with the same name? Are they similar at all? I find when I meet someone with a particular name, as time goes by I end up thinking "yep, typical" e.g.. I have never met a Michael I didn't like! (and I know LOTS of Michaels - 5 in my family alone)
Anyway, point is, my sister had a dog named Molly. She was a bossy little thing too who had a number of personality "quirks" shall we say. When she stamped her little foot (she was a shitzu/west highland terrier mix) everyone had to jump to her command. If you didn't, she would let you know in no uncertain terms that you were in the proverbial dog house. Everything was done on molly's time, and if you think you were going to get a sunday without a car ride, walk and a trip to see friends, think again. She was the boss, even when my other sister's dog Sally came 'round (a lab/red cloud kelpie mix), Molly would still be boss, she'd just rule from afar and let the "big dog" do all the work. She never had a growl on her, didn't bark or anything. In fact, if other dog's barked near her, she would nip their heels and tell them off. She also had this habit of "smiling" we used to call it. If a dog hassled her and she couldn't be bothered, she would curl the corner of her lip and show one k9 tooth. That was all, no aggression or movements other than that (she wsa usually just sitting in one spot), then she would turn her head and move on. But she got her message across every time and no one dared challenge it! Ever!
She got to the point where she began to slim down as she got older (she was always a round barrel) and would ask to wear her t-shirt all the time. Eventually when we took it off in the summer months and it was too hot, she looked naked! Molly passed on 3 years ago aged 15, but I'm sure she's up there trying to rule the roost as pack matriarch.
So what is it about the name "Molly" I wonder. Just some random thoughts, but your Molly's antics bought back the memories. Thanks for that!

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Our South African Mastiff at work grumbles at me when he wants his piece of kibble treat. He used to grumble so loudly (and he is huge) so if I was on the phone, his face was almost ear level while I sat at my desk:rolleyes: So I taught him to touch my left hand when he wanted a treat. Now he comes in my office and constantly is touching my left hand and when he doesnt get his way, he lays on the floor with a case of the grumbles that usually starts me laughing go hard, I give in.
Who trained who?
-
Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
hahaha, you guys are all correct, Molly does run our house.
I freely admit that she is spoiled rotten and it's gone on for years and years. I think it goes back to that first day that we saw her. She'd been brought down to Ontario in a truck with a whole lot of other dogs, rescued from a high kill shelter in northern quebec. So this was the adoption center. Everyone who went that day had already been preapproved for adopting a rescue dog from this organization. She was the one in her wire crate, shaved down to the skin almost due to how matted she'd been, curled in the corner, shaking and shivering and wouldn't look at anyone. My husband picked her up and never put her down again. I took care of the paperwork finishing up and we took her home and started to spoil her immediately I think. This personality of hers, developed as time went by. I think it was just the real her, waiting for a family to love her and her to love them for it to come out.
She is also, however, incredibly loyal to us and doesn't actually end up having too much separation anxiety now. She will never eat as good on a day that I'm at work though, as she will on a day I'm working from home. So I know it's still there to some degree.
They told me her name was Lady, and even though I tried calling her Lady, she never responded, so because she came from a french speaking area (solely french I'd say), I tried, Madame, Mademoiselle, and ever other variant of Lady I could think of. Finally I looked at her and said, you look like a Molly, so that's your name, no more of this Lady stuff. (she doesn't look like a lady she looks like a ragamuffin princess that will be in trouble the moment your back is turned).
That is funny about the head bunting Addy. Molly gets a tiny treat broken into pieces when my husband comes home from work. The go to the couch and she gets in his lap, and she does high fives with her paw till he breaks a piece off for her. If she doesn't think he's moving fast enough (always), she'll bunt his hand with her nose and stick her paw in the air, like come dad already, high five me!
I think Molly's definitely rules our roost. Must be the name :) (love your walk down memory lane soggydoggy, what a wonderful memory)
Susan, don't let Bailey read this thread! Lord knows what bad habits she'd pick up from Molly! A grumble here a grumble there, next think you know, it's a constant complaining about everything. sheezzz brats!
huggers,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Sharlene: So glad you rescued Molly and she is so wonderful and so much love. I am sure you cannot think of life without her. She seems to be a healthy girl. Of course all the dachshunds I have had were given to me as six week old babies, so I have no one except myself to blame for their bratty ways. We should have known when this tiny CoCo walked in he went all over the house and claimed it. He is still the alpha dog and we seem to be his subjects most of the time, especially since his sickness. Now his thing is getting us up at 2:30 in the morning to go out. My husband gets up at 4:00 so most of the time he gets up with him at 3:00. Any ideas on helping him to sleep until at least 4:00. I have tried Melatonin before he goes to bed, but has not helped as of yet. I think it is habit, but I cannot seem to break this habit. Otherwise, he is doing great on the 20 mg, just hair loss. I hope Molly continues to do good and has no problems. Love, JoAnne

What a sweet story about Molly.. she most definitely deserves to be spoiled forever!! :D

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
I love the Molly story:):):):) and she sure is one pretty little sweetheart. She would walk all over me too, I'm afraid. Id melt every time she gave me that Molly look.
I remember when I first brought Zoe to work to meet everyone one of my bosses said "Oh, she's fluffy, you like fru, fru dogs!" I never thought about it that way but yup I guess I am guilty of that:p:p:p:p
what's a fru fru dog anyway?:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:cool::rolleyes:
-
Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
LOL Addy, a little fluff or (fru fru) never hurt anyone. ;)
I NEVER thought my husband would the guy sitting around talking to the little white fluff ball on his lap and curling up to sleep with her. :p (I thought that was Me!!)
So, now I'm going to tell him, you like fru, fru, dogs!:D:D:D
A fru, fru = Zoe!!! ROFL! of course!
We love her obviously and cannot imagine life without her in it. In fact if we are home and she isn't, like we got in too late to pick her up after an "away" time, neither of us particularly like it. The house feels empty without her larger than life personality in it.
We do both worry, because although I tend to tell happy stories and she Does usually act like she is 100% A-okay, we know she has something wrong with her and don't know what or what to do and that worries us. We also wonder if her belly is getting bigger and does that mean her liver is getting larger or is it our imagination. And some days she doesn't feel as well as others, so sleeps more, doesn't eat or drink as much. The drinking we really have to keep on her to do, because of the crystals that form as soon as she doesn't drink enough. How can a dog with high cortisol, which the ACTH says she has NOT drink enough! That is mind boggling to me.
However, we'll keep on with the happy stuff and try to protect her and keep testing and whatever, till we get this figured out. It's been a couple years now since the first LDDS test for cushings. Now 3 negative LDDS behind us and one positive ACTH, it's crazy :(
Hugs,

Sharlene ( I don't have a fancy signature) :D

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Sharlene,
I know how frustrating it is to not know what's going on. I feel like we're kind of in the same boat. I only did one LDDS and it was positive, but Hannah has not had any worsening in her symptoms, and really doesn't have the main Cushing's symptoms. She does now have the ALT elevated too, which it was not before. Plus we had the strange bouts with borderline anemia from time to time. It is so baffling. I'm thinking I'll have some blood work done in a couple of weeks just to see how things are looking. At this point, my vets think I should just go by her symptoms, since she is an old lady and I don't want to do anything invasive. There are some days that I really wish I knew what was going on with her though. I'm glad to hear Molly has more good days than bad, and that she is such a happy, loved little girl!

I'm back!!!! Exhausted. Haven't had much sleep this weekend. Work functions/parties can just be really, really tiring. I am soooo getting old! Too old to be dancing and carrying on till 4am, that's for sure!
The house is quiet without Molly here. Can't wait to go get her in the morning!!! I miss my baby!
Of course we are under a snow/freezing rain warning in the morning. Looks a bit crazy, with freezing rain, snow more freezing rain, then rain. Uggghhhh If it's bad, hubs will be driving me to go get Molly and either way I expect to be working from home tomorrow.
Glad to be home!

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Glad you had a good time, wow 4am... I am impressed!! Very good effort! I am knackered for two days if I have a big night like that, they are few and far between these days. I turn the big 50 :eek: next month, so I will probably need three days recovery after that :D:D:D
How is Molly, did you get her back through your nasty weather? Is she happy or giving you the evil eye for leaving her???
When I get to Mum and Dads to pick Flynny up after work each night he usually hears my car and is waiting at the door for me all excited and gives me a kiss, But tonight I was late and they were eating their dinner, a tasty casserole. No Flynn at the door, so I called him and got a couple of woofs in reply and there he was stuck like glue to Dad's feet wanting a taste of his casserole no doubt! I called him over to give me a kiss, he thought about it for several very long seconds before he came sprinting over, gave me flying kiss and sprinted back to Dad's feet. So there you go, he had a choice of food or me.. and he chose the FOOD!:eek:

Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
YUK roads were horrible. I had hubby drive me in his big 4x4 to go get Molly since waiting was Not an option I could entertain. She is home, happy as she can be. Didn't even give me the stink eye! LOL:p I had planned to spend the day home with her, but then had to go to the office as of course, some emergency thing that had to be dealt with, so off I went. Didn't get home till late either, then had to work another hour or so and finally am done. Now That Molly didn't like, as she wants her attention when I get home from work. (me in trouble!!!) :o
Oh gee, the only time Molly will Not go to the door to greet my husband when he comes home from work is if she knows there is chicken cooking in the kitchen. Hello Monday evenings when I make chicken ceasar salad and she get her share. He swears that she just uses him for treats. I'm like, hello, have you Met our Molly??!!! :D
Oh lordy Trish! I'm turning 50 this year too! Isn't that a hoot! I have to say I gave it a good go, but boy was I done in yesterday. Of course I do at least remember what I was up to and where. Not so sure about some of the others. Still trying to figure out when I became best buds with one guy from work that I only remember saying hi to, but got a msg from him today that started out "hello darlin!!!" I was looking around for darlin figured he must have the wrong person, but too embarrassed to say anything. LOL :p:D:D:D
Now must get caught up on the forum!!
hugs
