Joining others in sending positive vibes and healing to your BIL! Also thinking good thoughts for Daniel's second surgery! Hug Molly tightly -- I am glad she is by your side during this difficult time.
Update; they said this was caused by a reaction to the anesthesia used. iHe is recovering in ICU and depending on how he does, they Might retry surgery on his back in a couple days.
Whew, what a relief! Thank you for the prayers and good vibes. We've made it this far and it's been a long evening but things seem better now.
So that is all I have heard but it is much more positive than earlier in the night.
Thank again everyone, if I hear anything more I'll update, but I rather doubt it. Molly wants some attention so I think I'll go play bunny rabbit with her before her last walkies.
Big Hugs to everyone for being there when I was all alone at the house with crazy worry.
Yes, it does sound much more positive. Thanks for the update.:p
A little game of bunny rabbit is exactly what you need right now. I would follow that with a tall glass of wine and some chocolate. We all know that chocolate cures all.:D;)
I'll check back in a little while. You were never really alone Sharlene. We were right here. xxxxoooo
Whew, that's much better news, for sure! OK, guess I'll toddle off to bed myself. Hope you and Miss Molly can get some good rest now, Sharlene.
Thank goodness for the better update! Hugs to you--try to get some rest.
Hi Sharlene,
I'm checking in with you one more time before I head off to bed. I'm glad that all is quiet on your homefront. I hope you're able to at least get a little bit of rest tonight. xxxooo
Holy Cow... what a day for me to be tied up, jeepers so pleased to read that better news at the end of the day for your BIL Sharlene. Now we have stage II for Daniel tomorrow, crikey it is never ending for you this week bet you cannot wait to have him home with you. Will be checking in 1st thing in the morning and be around a bit tonight if you need an ear. Big hugs to you and our furball Muffin xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Good to hear better news about your BIL, sending good thought and prayers for Daniel as well. I hope you are getting a good night sleep. Hugs to you and Molly. I hope today brings even better news for everyone concerned.
OK Sharlene, we're back on duty this morning with all fingers crossed for a better day all the way around! Good luck, Good luck, Good luck (I am very superstitious and always feel like somehow there is better luck when you wish it in "threes")...;)
I have everything crossed so tight, it looks like I'm trying not to wet my pants:o:o:o:o:o:o
I know everything will go well. I cant say PAWS UP Daniel but there has to be an equivilant that I just can think of right now:rolleyes:
Glad to hear some better news on your BIL! I hope today brings even more good news for both him and Daniel. Right by your side, sweetie.
Wow Sharlene... what a week you are having. I hope after today everything settles down at least a little for you, and your BIL is able to recover and have the surgery. Thinking about you and hubby.... God Bless you both.
Sharlene, Prayers and loving hugs to you and your family.
LOL@ Addy! Now that's a true friend Sharlene. I'm hanging out also with the others waiting to see how things are going. Your BIL had a really close call there. Thank the good Lord he was in the hospital where he could get immediate treatment when this happened. Poor Joan Rivers wasn't so lucky. So I figure now that they have this new info, they will also be much more careful how, when and why they do procedures on him, which is a good thing. I hope Daniel's #2 surgery goes as well as the first and he is up and about really soon. This awful week is almost over. You're doing good hanging in!
OK Sharlene, gettin' anxious for an update :o. Surely hoping that everything is under control and going well!
I'm here. Worked this morning, spent the afternoon with Daniel, been on phone with sister since I got home and still have to call hubs mom to update her.
So, Daniel came through surgery just fine, a bit loopy from the morphine injection and amused me quite a bit with the wheelchair and doing the hang ten to everyone on the way to surgery. He's a hoot it turns out when loopy doopy. Who knew!
BIL has turned the corner. It was touch and go most of the night but better today and off the breathing machine. They think he'll be out of ICU in a day or two if he continues to improve.
However, the neuro surgeon says that it is now in his opinion to risky to give him any kind of anesthesia. That it was 20 minutes in from his first getting it that his heart stopped twice and if they had already cut on him, then he would have been lost, that now the concern is that all the anesthesia are very much close to this one and would do the same thing. I don't know where that leaves him as far as his back goes.
But the heart being better is good news at least. Hopefully they can come up with some kind of plan.
Molly had a reverse sneeze attack this morning and wouldn't eat eat or take any meds, couldn't breath. Took about an hour to get her settled. She is Fine now, bouncing around asking for a dental treat.
I am a bit tired. I think over all though that this is about the best possible update to be able to make tonight. They consider BIL stable, and hubby is being his amusing self at the hospital.
Last night, in the lounge after their late night snack. (yea, go figure) a bunch of guys sitting around and one tells a joke, they all start laughing and everyone of them was in pain. So, laugh, groan moan, laugh some more. Daniel said it was really something, you had to be there to thoroughly enjoy the agony of it.
Hugs all!
um, Addy you can uncross now!!
You guys are the greatest!
Whew, what a relief to get this report!!!!! I agree, it sounds like the best under the circumstances all the way around.
Ummmmmmm yeah, I'd think you'd be a bit tired, young lady!!
Poor Molly with the reverse sneezing! It must have been sympathy pain for her daddy and uncle. :o
Good news Sharlene, hope he has detoxed from those drugs before you get him home... imagine him and Molly together, would be a riot! :) continued good thoughts to BIL, hope they get everything figured out for him.
:D :DAddy, I prescribe pelvic floor exercises :) or a bladder retraining programme!!! xx
Thank goodness some good news, whew:):):):):):):)
That sure is scary about your bil. Wow- I still am shocked about it. Thank goodness he is more stable now.
You better get all the rest you can now before hubby comes home and you have to put on your nurse's outfit:D:D:D:D;)
Pleased to hear you're ending the week with some positive news. When does hubby come home? I hope they manage to work out a solution for BIL.
Hope you manage to get some rest
Hubby will come home monday unless he blows the coop on sunday. He asked them if he could leave on sunday when he checked in and they said yes, but he has to decide on saturday. Not so sure he's going to feel like prancing out of there just like that. Snap! We'll see.
His mom even said, hmm, he should stay as long as they'll keep him, less time you have to run around and do for him. hahahahaha See, even his mom Knows what boys are like when they don't feel good. (course she did have 4 of them, crazy woman!)
I know he misses being here with me though. He didn't want me to leave today when visiting time was over and was so happy, kept saying I'm so glad you are here and then scooted over and said, here lay down. yea, have you seen those little hospital beds?!!! Well, he wasn't taking no for an answer, I mentioned he was loopy right?! So I had one leg on the bed, one leg on the floor and he immediately fell asleep and was snoring in my ear. I was afraid to move, yet I was also afraid there was going to be a big plonk of me hitting the floor!
He would start talking and by the end of the sentence be sleeping. Hello happy morphine. (that is what they give them prior to surgery)
So, how see how he is and he'll see what he thinks and we'll take it from there.
He has a flight planned to somewhere this coming week I'm sure of it, Ottawa I think. So, he isn't exactly planning for a lot of down time. I'll buy extra ibprophen I guess.
I know, my BIL, I don't know what the future holds for him. Nothing that I can imagine with either having surgery or not having surgery has a very good potential for success, although I do hope so, but knowing the things we know now, it's just very hard to know what happens next.
He's had multiple surgeries with no reaction to the anesthesia, so this is new and a game changer as the surgeons said.
hugs!
So good to hear that Daniel's second surgery went as well as the first! It sure sounds like his hospital is top of the line. Hope he hasn't gotten too used to the massages! I was given morphine after my appendix burst -- they had me take tablets for a week after I got home -- interesting stuff.
Sure hope that the doctors can figure out a way to treat your BIL's back problems -- since they know now about his allergic reaction, there should be a way that they can pre-treat him.
Please take care of yourself -- I know after a particularly stressful period that my whole body aches due to tensing up without even realizing it.
All in all a really good report!:p Daniel sounds like he's in really good hands and has some new loopy friends to commiserate with.;) I hope he able to take it easy once he comes home. That flight that he plans on taking might have to be mysteriously canceled.;)
I am glad to hear that your brother-in-law is stable. I hope they are able to do something to help his back situation. I definitely can see why the doctors want to be very careful. No more close calls!:o
Well Sharlene, cuddle up with the muffin tonight and try to get some rest yourself. xxxxoooo
Daniel's story sounds just like something my father would pull. Making friends in the hospital and causing trouble :) How sweet that he wanted you to squeeze in on the bed. That's adorable!
Frightening situation with your BIL! Allergies can be serious. Dad and I both have a long list. Mostly to medications. I get very sick from anesthesia and they give me something orally and by IV to combat that. They will figure something out with your BIL.
On the plus side, I am glad that the heart issue wasn't something to require surgery!
Until Bella, I had never seen a reverse sneeze. They are SCARY to watch especially with the noises that they make. Molly knows that you need her to be stable right now. They know us more than we know ourselves.
Hopefully you'll get plenty of sleep tonight.
Hugs
Glad things have improved a bit for your BIL. Still doesn't sound like the best place to be but he is off the machine and that is a big step.
I love being with folks in recovery after minor surgeries or procedures and listening to them talk coming out of anesthesia. It's nearly always hilarious! :D
good news all around! HUGS!
Poor hubby is not happy he has to stay till Monday. He was hoping to get out tomorrow. All his buddies that only had surgery on one side left today. So he's a bit down right now. Will go visit him this afternoon. Told him he just has to concentrate on getting better and this will all be over with.
They determined that BIL didn't have a heart attack from the anesthesia it was a straight reaction that made his heart stop twice and took hours for his heart muscle to start working again. That is why they said no surgery. They think it will happen again. His heart is only 50 -57% of a normal persons anyway so it's tricky without this additional complication.
Hopefully they will come up with a plan forward we just have to wait and it could be awhile for them to figure out what can be done. They plan to move him from ICU today so that is good. Not sure what happens after that. No one there knows either.
Hugs
Molly is doing okay. No more reverse sneezing. She has had that happen to her off and on for years now but it's been quite a long time since the last time.
I picked up low protein dry food and moderate protein wet food for her today and her liver support supplements. Sam-e and milk thistle.
We will see how she does on this. I only got a very small bag of the low protein dry to see if she will even eat it. I have dry green tripe to mix with it if need be. That is higher protein but low phosphorus.
Hugs all
Just checking in before I shut everything down for my road trip starting tomorrow. I had to know how everyone was making out, BIL, Hubby, Molly and of course the thread that keeps them all together, you Sharlene.
Keesh had a few reverse sneezes and really scared me. I rushed him to the vet the first time it happened (of course the one that misdiagnosed him) and they didn't have a clue. It was only me investigating on the internet that I found a few videos of what it was. Never ever did find out what caused his chattering and foaming the odd time. I do know that it was pretty much guaranteed to happen if he sniffed another dogs urine. Not all, but some. Then it would happen in the house for no reason.
I often wanted to clone him.... kinda wished I had, seeing he never had any puppies.
Anyway... you take care of yourself Sharlene, and our sweet Molly. Don't run yourself thin. I'll ck in when I get to the hopefully sunny south.
Judi, you be careful driving!
Hubby had lots of visitors today so was much happier. Unfortunately tomorrow will be quiet for him as he insists that I attend a birthday party for his best bud since he can't go. I said I would but wish it wasn't during the whole visitation time. :( Oh well, carrying out his wishes and then I'll pick him up in the morning Monday. I already took the day off work, so that is good. He even laughed this afternoon without it hurting too bad, but it takes a bit of time and as the doctor said, he had both sides done, so its a bit more invasive than the ones who just had one side. Poor baby. :) :)
BIL - I haven't had an update from family today since this morning. I guess my niece got a call that BIl was being combative. My sister called the hospital and they said the was agitated this morning and trying to fire all the nurses in ICU, but was resting now. She was going up with my nephew and his wife to the hospital this afternoon.
That's it, we are all hanging in there.
hugs
Glad to hear hubby will be coming home Monday morning. I;m sure Molly will have a huge greeting for him!!!!
I hope you are not having this weird weather and hubby does not have to worry about any ice Monday.
We had snow and cold and now we have rain and above freezing temps. Monday should be warmest day before it turns cold again on tuesday. Go figure. They said this is what our winter is going to be like this year. Looks like if they are right, freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw, repeat till spring
hugs
Good to hear that hubby will come home on Monday. How long does he have to convalesce before returning to work?
Not happy to hear they're expecting a freeze / thaw winter - that makes for so much ice. I'd rather just have loads of snow and cold temps.
Hopefully, Molly will let you sleep in a bit tomorrow. Monday will be here soon!
Continuing to send healing thoughts for your BIL.
Such a blessing to hear that all of you are hanging in there. It sounds like other than being lonesome, the hubby is healing well. The BIL is extremely lucky. I hope he will continue to do well and not fire everyone who is caring for him. LOL. If he didn't need spinal surgery, they could do an epidural and numb him from his feet to his chin if need be, but I don't know if they can do that since the epidural goes in the spine and they need to do spinal surgery. I hope they can find a good solution for him. Tricky, tricky. And as for Miss Molly, I hate those spells. They are not supposed to be dangerous but they always scare me to death and I don't imagie they are pleasant for the animals. I had a Himalayan cat (RIP sweet Taffy) that had them all the time and it was miserable for both of us. Hopefully she won't have any more any time soon.
You're doing a good job hanging in Sharlene. Try to get some rest. Hugs and prayers still coming your way. (They're blowing in with the nasty weather... haha!)
I'm going to take brother in law being combative as a sign that he's feeling a bit better hopefully. Curious to know how and if they will do the back surgery. I imagine they'll have to do something for him.
How sweet hubby worrying about his friend's birthday party. I'm sure it's not where you want to be. Make an appearance and visit Daniel after. Is that doable?
I hope today goes by as quickly and smoothly as possible for Daniel. He'll soon be safely home once again -- WHEW!!
As for BIL, I do share a great deal of concern over him. It seems as though the bleeding in his spine must be addressed in some way, but how?...:o. I'll bet those Stanford docs are consulting with colleagues around the world, and thank goodness they undoubtedly have tons of connections to do so. The power of networking!! Anxiously awaiting news about the next step.
Hey Sharlene, you've got so much other stuff on your plate that there's no need for you to even glance at this right now. But I just found this 2012 article by Dr. Peterson re: hypertension/proteinuria in Cushpups that may be of interest to you if you've not already read it. There is no urgency whatsoever because it confirms you are doing the right things treatment-wise. But it raises some interesting questions for further research. So when you are ready to turn your attention back to Miss Molly, you may want to take a gander.
