UCK, have the moon boots out and in the backyard making paths through the snow for molly to a final cleared spot for the potty break. I have to take her out on a leash even in the backyard because of the pool. I won't let her wonder back there with snow on the ground without a leash and me on the other end. :) We look like a funny pair but she knew when it was snow on her walks this morning that we'd be making the snow paths and she went right downstairs to the outside door, ready to go. And yes, she finally could go. The sidewalk cleared path just doesn't do it for her in the winter with snow on the ground. Too much snow to get to trees and no grass. :( she really dislikes it, but loves her backyard play area.

Gosh Sharlene, that sounds fun... NOT!!!! :D:D Train her to use to loo inside :D:D I am going to stop complaining about the heat, because the opposite does not sound very pleasant at all! I can just imagine Molly disappearing under a mound of snow and you having to pull her out by her leash :eek: Keep dry girls!
xx
Oh Sharlene what we do for these furbabies. CoCo wakes us up at 3 every morning to go out. So here I am with a flashlight trying to keep him quiet so he does not wake up the whole neighborhood. My husband and myself race to see who can get their clothes on first to take him out (NOT). I usually win or shall we say lose since I am faster and it is cold in Nashville this week, down in the 20s and 30s, but no snow. Moon boots sound like a good thing in this cold weather. Have a good New Year. Love, JoAnne
Totally relate, I was outside at 5am putting down plastic where we still had a wee bit of grass showing, not sure it will work with the new snowstorm, I'll let you know:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Bermuda sounds good right about now, :D:D:D:D:D:D
Noooooo, you got to all come visit me!! No snow here ladies! I woke up to foghorns this morning, Flynn thought it very strange and so did I! Very thick dense fog had come in from the sea, most unusual. Lifted now and its going to be another hot day, think the walk will have to be postponed until this evening when it cools down.
Burr... I am so glad we aren't clearing snow for our dogs. I feel for ya'll. I don't think Boriss would ever go outside.
We did have a white Christmas which was nice. But, it all melted away by yesterday.
I hope you are staying warm. :)
Happy New Year Sharlene and Miss Molly! Hope you keeping your feet dry! xx
Happy New Years Everyone!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful new year in 2013, with many good things and happy, healthy pups in their lives. Love long lasting.
Cheers,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
Happy New Year to you, Molly and your family. I sure enjoyed your Christmas pics. Molly is so photogenic! And obviously she will ALLOW you to take her picture, how nice! :D. Wishing you many blessings in the new year.
Hugs,
Tina and Jasper
Hey Tina! Hope you had good holidays too. I'll be watching for your update. :)
Sometimes she'll let us take pictures of her, other times she runs if she sees the camera. She can be a total brat about it.
Today she has an upset tummy with diarrhea so we're keeping an eye on her. We think it was because she has a hard time finding that perfect spot when there is snow on the ground and skipped her normal go for the day, yesterday, then didn't eat while we were out but was up at between 4:30 and 5:30, eating her dinner food. (this is Not normal behavior. She Never gets up to eat during the night.) Then she was fine with just nibbling her food during the day, but of course, we had the diarrhea for every walk except the last one today. So, hopefully it will be resolved by tomorrow morning. crossing fingers.
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
Sharlene, sorry to hear that Molly is not feeling her best. Diarrhea can be very worrisome. Could she have eaten something she wasn't supposed to, with all the holiday stuff and all? That will usually trigger it for Jasper. Unfortunately he can be prone to colitis. Hopefully Molly doesn't have that problem. As you know, feeding the chicken/hamburger and rice bland diet for a day or so would help if it doesn't clear on its own. And just make sure she is drinking enough water. Hope she is feeling better soon.
Hugs,
Tina and Jasper
I don't think she got anything she shouldn't have. We had cornish hens for xmas and she had a bit of meat from those and that is all I let her have. If something hit the floor though you know how dogs can be, it's fair game and she'll try to get it. I didn't notice anything yesterday. I do know she didn't do a poop at all yesterday and that can upset her tummy. It's definitely an issue for her in winter, not finding that perfect spot to go in. So I'm hoping that is all it is. No vomiting.
I know, I worry about colitis too, because that would be a definite sign that she has cushings. I did find two small white bumps on her, after she was groomed. One tiny one on the back of her neck and another tiny one on her back by the hind quarters. I went over her really well after the last grooming to check after reading so much on here about it. I don't know how long they have been there as you can't feel them when her coat is grown out and wouldn't have this time if not for checking specifically. They aren't red, no hair loss around them, nothing to even signify they are there, but something I'll keep an eye on.
We know the cortisol is high, but so far she continues to test negative on the LDDS and I am loath to start cushing treatment without any symptoms other than the pot belly, which I am guessing is from the enlarged liver.
I really hate not knowing for sure what is wrong with her and if there is something I need to do or not do. We've ruled out thyroid and diabetes with testing. I don't know what other tests to even do.
Thanks for checking back in with us. I do appreciate it.
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
Sharlene
Sharlene, when you say you are worried about colitis because it would be a definite sign of Cushings, did you mean calcinosis cutis? I am guessing that is what you meant since you mention how you are watching a few spots on Molly's skin. Colitis is an inflamed colon which results in diarrhea, etc. That is what Jasper is prone to if he gets too stressed, or eats something that doesn't agree with him. He had problems with that off and on way before Cushings. It is not diagnostic for Cushings, is it?
I have found a few skin tag type of spots on Jasper's skin in the past few months, and also what looks to be a sebaceous cyst type of thing. I am watching them closely also, so far they have stayed the same. I plan to have the vet take a look at them in the next couple of weeks, just to make sure they are nothing to worry about. So I understand the worry about the skin stuff.
I know it is hard not knowing for sure what is going on with Molly. And after what Jasper has been through, I absolutely would not start any Cushings treatment unless you were absolutely sure that is what she has. Sometimes I start freaking myself out and start questioning if Jasper had it for sure since he got so toxic on the Lysodren so easily, and we did not have an ultrasound prior to starting treatment. I didn't know anything about having that done until I learned it on this site, and that was after he started the treatment. I go back and look at his LDDS results, and they are definitive, but the worry gets ahold of me because we didn't have an ultrasound or ACTH test in addition to confirm the diagnosis. So knowing what I know now, I would have to be absolutely sure. And Molly does not have the other symptoms, which is great!
Hugs,
Tina and Jasper
oh sharlene so sorry to read that molly has an upsest stomach,i hope that she is ok...signed the worrier of worriers...patty (milo)meka...hang in there mom !!! xoxox
Argggh Tina, yes I meant calcinosis cutis, not colitis. Colitis is not a designator of cushings that I know of either. True, molly could have that. She has been known to have diarrhea episodes in the past, usually they clear up in a day or so, if not, we go to the vets. She has had two episodes that she ended up at the vets due to it being bad and not clearing up quickly. Both times, they said she had a stomach bacterial issue and put her on antibiotics.
Here is a question. If your dog has a dead tooth, what is the likely hood of it becoming infected? Molly has one, but I check her gums regularly and they appear normal pinkish, not red, inflamed or off color at all.
I've not wanted to have it out yet, till we can get a handle on the liver enzymes ALT, that is elevated before submitting her to anesthesia. But I don't want to risk infection either. Anyone have an idea of the odds of infection with a dead tooth? It's one of her front little ones.
Thanks Patty and Tina. We're hanging :) Molly is near my foot on her quilt, sleeping.
Sharlene
Hey Sharlene: Hope Molly's diarrhea has cleared up today. CoCo has it some and I give him Pepto per vet. Don't know if it is okay, but have not seen that it harms him and it does clear up. Back to work today. Take care. Love JoAnne
Work day for me too today JoAnne.
She had two formed stools today, one this morning and around noon another and as soon as she had the second one, she had three more diarrhea ones while outside.
It's weird. Maybe I need to get her some Pepto. :( I've seen others on here use Pepto prior to giving the morning dose of cushing medicine so as to not have as great of an upset tummy. Is it plain Pepto or Pepto AC, one I remember we can give and one we can't, but I don't remember which is which.
hugs,
Sharlene
It is Pepcid AC.

Thanks Glynda, I had a brain cramp :(
Hi Sharlene,
How is little miss Molly feeling today? Hopefully things are going better.
Happy New Year!
Hey Amy. :) No diarrhea today! whoo hoooo Not sure what caused it, but we'll see how she does tomorrow. I came home at noon and worked from home the rest of the day just in case. I'm really glad I have a job that I can do that. I'm guessing she feels better, we'll see how she does over the weekend.
Thanks for asking! (there is a small chance that she got a piece of the inside of a shoe today, but not sure that she swallowed anything, or just threw it about) She's sleeping under the Xmas tree right now. Her favorite spot of the moment.
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
So pleased to hear Molly Muffin is behaving herself! Flynn has got a bit of the squits too, otherwise good!! It's catching! Have a nice Friday :)
Trish and Flynn xx
I bet it is going to be hard for you to take the Christmas Tree down since Molly loves it so much.
I hope that she continues to improve over the weekend.
Oh no Trish, not the sympathetic squirts! Hope that clears up soon for Flynn. Molly is okay again today. I didn't give her the SO food yesterday, and that might have helped. I found that if I switch over to a maturity food that it sometimes helps a bit with the runs when she gets them. I can't keep her off it too much though because her water intake goes too low and that isn't good.
I know, she is not going to be happy with the tree coming down this weekend. :( She thinks she owns that tree!
hugs all,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
So glad Molly is better. I hate it when the puppies have diarrhea. Hugs, JoAnne
Sorry to hear that Molly has been under the weather but pleased to hear she's getting better. Not sure if others have suggested it in the past but we used to give Hamish a small amount of pure pumpkin every day (he loved it and it was really useful for getting him to take pills too!) because of it's fiber content.
[QUOTEQUOTE]
Sorry Molly was feeling well but is doing better now.
McDavis, did you give Hamish the pure pumpkin for the cushings or something else? I am always trying to find other natural alternative to helping Norman deal with this cushings...
Sharon Norman's Mom
Sharon,
Pumpkin helps with digestive issues - diarrhea or constipation. It will do nothing for Cushing's. ;)
Thank you squirts mom.
Sharlene how did Molly do with the tree coming down?
I've put off the tree coming down till tomorrow. She gets one more evening under it on her rug.
I didn't try pumpkin with her. She just seems to have these days, where she'll get the runs and I never seem to know why. As long as they are under control in a day or two, she is usually okay. I should keep a can in the cupboard though for a just in case. Luckily if she has a bad day like that I can work from home and take her out as often as I need to. They don't happen that often though.
hmmm, pumpkin for taking pills, now that is an interesting thought. Lord knows I can't get molly to take a pill period. She knows and will eat the stuff around it and spit the pill out. I have to empty her capsules onto a teaspoon of wet food on top of her dry food, to get her to take that. :( She is a marvel at ways Not to swallow a pill.
Thanks for the good thoughts.
hugs,
Sharlene
Molly enjoy your last night under your tree. ;)
Taking it down is not anywhere near as much fun as putting it up.
Hey Sharlene! So glad to read that Molly is feeling better AND that she gets one more night to lounge under the tree. I don't envy you with the chore of taking it down though! :)
You two! Ha! If you were closer I'd have you over for a tree "take down" party. LOL Dog treats included.
As it is, I just took another picture of the muffin under the tree. (okay maybe more than one)
I'll work on it slowly tomorrow while hubs is at the racquetball club with the guys.
We're suppose to get more snow tonight and tomorrow.
Off to make tea!
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
Ok, now stop showing off because Molly allows her picture to be taken. Lol. :D :D
:D:D:D it did take a few to catch her looking at the camera. I had to go to the other side of the room and zoom in and I had to wait for hubby to get her in relaxed mode with belly scritches. She'll even suffer a camera flash for good belly scritches. LOL
Ha! that makes me laugh.. We are constantly trying to get Boriss to let us take a picture. He HATES! Pearl is my photogenic baby.. :D
Hope you got the tree down & Molly isn't pouting about it.;)
Pouting! I wish. Worse, she is laying where the tree was, tooting. :( Rear end pointed towards my chair.
I'm trying to decide if this is the bite of hamburger she got, or if it's her way of expressing unhappiness with the missing tree. It's a 50/50 toss up at the moment.
would molly dare say kiss my butt mama for taking my tree away ...lol... lets see how she is tomorrow !!! :) xoxox
Hahahaha oh you will have to get Molly her own indoor pot plant tree so she can sleep under it. She must think she is out in the wild in her own living room! Ohhhh get her a tree Mommy!
