I am familiar with the mid-air dog catch :)
Yay for good poops!! Funny how some of them react, we had a doozy of a thunderstorm earlier this week, Flynn could care less but he likes fireworks too and looks out the window at them if he gets the chance. What's this 3-day weekend you have, think I am missing out on something here as we do not have one!! STINK!! I think we have Queen's Birthday to look forward to in a couple of weeks!
My trip to Wellington earlier in the week was a disaster.... my direct 7am flight was cancelled to Welly, the meeting started at 9am. But the airline said they would fly me to Auckland, then straight down to Wellington. So off I went on my round the island flights :D Got there at 10.40am and the meeting finished at 11.30 LOL... then had to wait 2.5hrs to fly home. Crikey, that was a long day for a 45min meeting.
Hope your Friday goes well and cya on the weekend sometime! x
Sharlene:
That is funny to look at Molly you would think she would be a cuddle bug. Tipper is independent like that too, if you touch her and she does not want to be touched she moves also, like don't bother me! It is dark he so I do not know what to expect today. Last nite the hard rain got her started panting. She is associating the hard rain with thunder. I just keep ignoring her and do my thing, but inside I feel horrible for her struggling with this. Blessings
Patti
Hi Sharlene-
Our first dog, a Pekepoo-was horribly bothered by Thunderstorms. She would go into the bathroom where we had put in sliding shower doors and somehow manage to get her short little self into the tub, behind the shower doors and stand there and shake and pant. It was such a sorry sight. :(
Bailey, regarding sleeping patterns, has recently started wanting to share my pillow. I have not yet figured out the cause for this. At first, she seemed to be spooked by an alarm that had gone off....just a little one. She climbs so she drapes herself across the top of my pillow. The other night she progressed so her face was in my face. Sometimes I wake up and she has migrated on around to where she's barely clinging to the side of the bed. There really isn't room for two of us on the pillow. I'm letting this play itself out for the moment. It's an abrupt change in behavior.
Hugs.:)
Our three day weekend is Victoria Day, the Queens birthday, so ours is just earlier than yours Trish. (I always think STINK why aren't we getting all the holidays other countries are!) LOL I'll be jealous when yours comes around and I have to work.
Susan, I wonder what on earth is up with Bailey and the pillow.
Molly has had a better year this year so far with the storms than last, but not as much thunder either. All the really bad storms have missed us so far. Yay!
Molly continues to do good. I'm having a dickens of a time catching up with the IMS. My work has been so hectic busy, that I can't get on the phone with her, or she is in clinic and can't get on the phone with me. Yowser Good thing there isn't anything pressing at the moment, but I'm sure if it was, we'd both make the time.
Well, back to work. I'm swamped today!
hugs
Sharlene and molly muffin
Glad to hear Molly is still being a diva and cuddles are on her terms, my brother Lhasa is the opposite if he could sit in your chest all day long he,d be happy :D
I've used the rescue remedy Bach flowers on all my dogs for various situations and I use it for myself in nervous situations  a vet once told me if you drop it on the ear flap it goes into the blood stream quickier. My own vet uses it in nervous dogs before procedures, maybe worth a try for Molly in the storms
Hope work gets better and your not to swamped have a lovely weekend :)
Enjoy your three day weekend!!!! I cant wait for ours next weekend. Sad that we have to get excited about 3 days off, it should be a five day weekend;););););) I hope you relax and just have a great three days.
How's the pool? I think we will either have to open ours or pumps water out, all the rain has it filled to the top:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Kisses to Molly.
I Know 5 day weekends would be perfect, work a couple days..yea, I'm on board!
Ugh the pool. I've never Seen it be so green algae filled before, must have been all the rain we got earlier in the spring. It's a perfect clear color now, but wow, yuck to start out. Still not heated up and hubby is testing today. It did clear up in one day once we got the cleaner in there for the bottom and the algae killer. It's actually kind of coolish today and grey looking.
I've been out going over the bushes and plants. I think we lost all the tea and climbing roses. A couple of the bush roses Might make it. 2 emerald cedars lost, 1 alberta cedar looks pretty bad. Guess it's time to redo some landscaping, maybe take the opportunity to make some changes. Ugh, sounds like a project!
I think I'll head out the nursery and see if I can come up with some ideas. Take the jeep just in case I Do get inspired and need to load up. hahaha
Have a good weekend all. I might not be around much if I get inspired!
hugs
Sharlene and molly muffin
Ha, this morning, we did 3 trips to one nursery, 3 trips to the other, bought annuals for the window boxes and I wasn't happy. Most of the wave petunias have no flowers yet, my window boxes are mostly green:rolleyes::rolleyes:
I hope you have better stock of plants then we do. It has been just too darn cold here and I still have not called the pool guy so I imagine our pool with be green as well:(
Good luck with the landscaping though it feels good to get out and dig and look at plants, doesnt it?
Hope you and Molly are doing well. Wish I could send some of this heat from San Diego up to you,and I'll tAke some of your cold air.:D
Hugs Sonja and Apollo
Just got back from 3 nurseries. All I got was a bunch of geraniums. They look good but boy prices are higher this year! Think I will go back to the big nursery though as I just had brilliant thought of black cedar mulch for front and back yards. 20 bags and a bottle of ibprophen might do it!!
Sonja I'll trade weather for today but no fires!!
Molly wants to help in yard. Err. Hmmm.
Sharlene
I saw this and thought Molly and Koko might like it once you and Addy get the pools sorted out
http://blog.theanimalrescuesite.com/...en-retrievers/
too cute, they are having so much fun just floating around. love the float chairs too:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Koko is afraid of the pool but maybe if I took him in a float chair like that he would like it. What about Molly?
Molly is fascinated as long as you don't try to make her go in it. Molly's legs do the swim if you hold her under the faucet to clean her bum even. She like get me out of here!
My golden though like these loved the water and would swim any time.
Thanks Tracy. That put a smile on my face.
Weather turned cold and hubs and I have retreated indoors where it is warmer. No sun. Hope will be better tomorrow. I have plans!
Wonder what is on at VIP movie tonight. Hmm
Hugs sharlene and Molly muffin
Henry's the same as Molly when it comes to water, although he does show a lot of interest in the bathtub when there's no risk of a bath ;)
You're all putting me to shame with your gardening tales, however my excuse is that no matter what we do our one flower bed gets overtaken by an enormous fast growing weed, so anything which is planted is soon overcome and killed off. I've given up, and just spend the summer pulling it out and waiting for the next batch to appear
It's sunny and warm here today so we've been clearing out the garages making space for another car
Ohhhh gardening, I quite like it too!! I actually have a big geranium with tiny pink flowers on it that I need to deal to today before it starts over running the driveway. My pots are all dead so a trip to garden centre maybe next week if I can get them all cleared up today, another gorgeous sunny day but frosty to start. But I am liking frost at the moment as think of it as natural flea killer!! :D Awww Molly helping in the garden, they are some of my favourite times pottering in the garden with the Flynn by my side! He does like to dig, I just need to train him to dig in the bits that need digging!! I nearly twisted my ankle yesterday when I rolled it in a new hole!
Gosh I hope you get to talk to the IMS soon, darn busy work days!
Sharlene:
I guess everyone will be outside taking care of whatever happened over the winter. I am going to enjoy the day with Tipper and Toby. That is cute about Molly with the water. That is one of my regrets that Tipper can no longer use her pool and play with her fish and try to kill it, she just gets too excited and works herself into a frenzy which is not good now. It is very cold here with frost on the ground, hope it warms up. Blessings
Patti
Yes we will be outside this afternoon doing more yard stuff. :)
This morning I am going to do laundry or try to and get that out of the way. I have to pack up some things I am sending out and Diabetes Association is sending around a truck tomorrow to do pick up for them. I have most of it laid out on a bed, folded up, just need to box and bag it.
Molly continues to have good poops for which I am thankful. We had fireworks last night. She didn't do the shake thing at all, but had a bit of nerves, jumpy, and then once we put her on the couch by us, she flipped over onto her back and went right to sleep. So that was good.
hugs,
Sharlene and molly muffin
See that Molly is not stupid, she instantly felt safe in between her mum and dad :)
The rain messed with our gardening plans today. We did get a couple boxwood in that we had to replace. So many bushes lost due to this horrid winter we had.
When it started to rain, Molly was the first one at the door, bouncing up and down to get out of it. LOL Nope, not stupid at all.
hugs
Sharlene and molly muffin
I cant even see straight from all the outside work this weekend. We did get the gravel area cleared out pretty well. That was a major project. Everything loves to grow in the gravel:rolleyes:
I think my lace cap hydrangeas aren't coming back but they say we are 4 weeks behind.
True Dat. Gravel is a like a weed magnet! I still need to go through the front yard and get rid of some weeds. ugh
My back is not happy tonight either. Long soak sounds very good! Tomorrow is another day. :)
hugs
Sharlene and molly muffin
oh I was going to day. I don't think my lace caps made it, but we'll see, I have a varigated that is temperamental at the best of times. It's not looking overly positive at the moment, but the peegees and others are looking good.

Sharlene:
Ok you guys are making me tired with all the outside work. I barely got the spring cleaning done! Now to think I have to go outside and start makes me want to throw up! Where is a good condo or an apartment when you need one? Just walk away and lock the door, no outside work. It looks to be a nice day starting here. Frost on the ground though. Blessings
Patti
you will not complain about your garden anymore when you saw my jungle...........believe me!
well, all those bushes and nettles will keep the burglars out........
LOL I Always love it when it is done, it's just the process of getting there that is exhausting. :)
However, pool is open and progress on the yard is being made. It's going to take some time to get the bushes/sm trees out that didn't make it from this winter and then redo it. The weather was finally good today so that we got more accomplished.
Then out of nowhere, lighting in a clear sky and thunder, then bham, in came the rain. Molly freaked, we ignored her, she recovered and then the kids setting off fireworks started and now she is underneath my feet.
We made the decision to cancel the Europe trip this year. Too much stuff going on at work on hubby's plate, so it's not going to happen. That is two years we have cancelled vacation plans because of cruddy timing. A new CEO that is making changes, definitely represents cruddy timing.
We'll see what else the year hold for us and possibilities, but for now, a big away trip is a no go. Oh well, life happens right.
I do know that I'll be away in September for sure for at at least a long weekend. That is a family event that I won't cancel for anyone or any work. I think he'll be going with me :) :) If not, oh well.
hugs
Sharlene and molly muffin
Sharlene:
Sorry to hear your vacation is cancelled. Maybe just go somewhere closer for now? You know it's a funny thing but Tipper knows the difference between fireworks and thunder. The fireworks don't bother her in the least so I am convinced that it is the static shocks before the storm that start her up. I am rubbing her with a dryer sheet today before medicating her with the herbs. We are to get storms this afternoon!! Blessings
Patti
Yep, life does happen. Sorry your trip is on hold, but knowing you and hubby you will fit some short trips in! Have you been for a swim already? Have you managed the IMS chat yet? Pleased to hear Molly doing good, apart from the storms but seems she recovered pretty quick!! Good girl she is :) Catch up over the weekend, speaking of which only one day left for me and it is the usual 7.30am start on Friday for the team meeting, we get a new junior every three months and it is traditional on their last day to bring us snacks... last day is tomorrow and we have already primed him up to get baking tonight :D so will see what we get in the morning! xxx
Sharlene:
What a whopper of a storm last nite, nothing but rolling thunder all nite long. Tipper is really struggling with this weather, I hope the Bach's Remedy is here on the 30th to try it too. Did you have this weather last nite? If so I hope Molly did well. Is she still doing ok with the poops on this food? When are you going to take her back for a tumor check? It seems the time flies and there we are back at the hospital, it goes so quickly. I don't know how many more times my heart can take those wait and hear Tipper's fate moments. It is truly torturous, but unfortunately necessary. Looks like rain again today. Blessings
Patti
Sorry to hear your trip was cancelled. Ahh Europe, nothing like a European vacation :):) Have you ever taken Molly on a weekend jaunt?
We are thinking of trying a one nighter at a charming inn about an hour away on a lake in a quaint resort town and taking Koko. He is such a good boy and I have not had a night away in six years. Hopefully we will find a dog sitter for a longer trip later this year.
Almost Friday!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Whooo hoooo!!! I can't wait for this week to be over. I worked from 8:30 - 3:30 constant today with no break. Then drove home and back online at 4:00pm to work till 5:00pm. Whew, you know it's bad when co-workers stop by and drop off a coffee and doughnut at like 2pm, because they see you going at it nonstop. Thank god for co-workers!!
Nope, not a swim yet, hubby has though. He is some kind of strange creature, was up at 5:30am, did a work out, had a swim, sent some emails then up for a shower and to work. I told him that was VERY UN-natural! LOL
We took Molly once up to a friends cabin for the weekend. She did okay but she doesn't like automobiles and traveling. If she did we would definitely take her anywhere we could drive too. She gets so scared though, shaking something horrible that we don't do it. I think that the cabin on the lake sounds wonderful!! I bet Koko would live that too and probably do wonders for you and hubby too, Addy. Do it!!
Oh I'm sure we'll do something Trish, you know us. LOL I'm already trying to decide where we can go for say a long weekend at the end of June. Last time we went to Prince Edward Island and it was wonderful. Awesome Lobster, and Anne of Green Gables area is so lovely. I'd be there all summer in a heart beat if possible.
Haven't hooked up with the IMS yet. This week was bad for me for personal time. I called her this evening and if possible she'll call back.
I want to mainly see, if I can do a free catch for the next UPC, ask if the kidney stones might be affecting that value. (i can't get molly to a vet first thing in the morning without her going to the bathroom). I want to let her know that I'd like to do another LDDS to see if the adrenal tumor is secreting cortisol. (that would leave, non secreting or pheo if not) and then based on what that comes back as, discuss whether we want to try the melatonin and lignans to bring down the other sex hormones. I know it won't do much for cortisol level and that with high cortisol she isn't truly atypical cushings either.
And still NO symptoms of cushings. This does drive me crazy on a daily basis. LOL
I guess her next ultrasound would be in about a month or two? have to look at when we did this one.
No storms here and molly is fine. Her poops are Great for now. Her appetite though is sucking. Unless there is canned food involved. (i added some shredded chicken Fromms (lowest fat content I could find of that brand) and a bit more of the Fromms kibble to her breakfast that she didn't finish to get her to eat tonight.
Ohhh you have to let us know what was cooked up for in the morning Trish.
hugs all

Sorry you have to cancel your planned trip Sharlene. You never know why things work like they do...with travel I always feel the way it all happens is what's meant to be. So maybe when you next go it will be an extra fantastic trip! :)
Trixie is not a traveler either. She gets carsick sometimes and when we get to the destination she's hyper and pulling all over place to sniff out everything...not exactly a mellow, go with the flow type of gal, so taking her anywhere that's not the usual is no fun for me.
I have always wanted to check out PEI, ever since reading Anne of Green Gables. Wow...the lobster and mussels there must be fantastic. We have a mussels restaurant two blocks away that has a location on PEI as well, all the mussels come in fresh from there and the seafood is soooo good there.
Someday I'd like to go to PEI...especially as I can't stand the heat anymore and I think the temps there in the summer would be just perfect..not too hot! :o I've been to Vancouver a couple times, and up to Whistler. Love Vancouver so much..what a great city and so clean and beautiful. Whistler was fantastic, it was years ago and that was the last time I was skiing, we had a blast there.
Where in Europe were you going to go?
Sorry Molly's appetite is not up to snuff...is it that she just doesn't care for the food? Is she perking up for any foods...treats of some kind? I hope that improves soon!
Barbara
Flynn does a free catch for his UPC, I get the first one which seems to work OK... I get a supply of specimen jars so I can catch it straight into that to keep it clean as possible, I also don't get the first bit of the flow so hopefully to lessen any sediment that has settled at bottom of the bladder. It's a bit easier with a boy though :D
Awww wish she did not get carsick, then she could come too for your little jaunts! But the PEI sounds just lovely, nice place to get away from it all!! See you on the weekend :)
Sharlene:
You deserve a vacation after that work day! I hope you did not get any more storms last nite. I saw in the south they had tornadoes again. Hope all is well with Molly. Blessings
Patti
I think Molly is just being a bugger and trying to hold out for canned food on her kibble. She does like the Fromms, so this good and it is giving her digestive tract what appears to be the best settling she has had for awhile. Oh yea, she is always gung ho for treats and anything canned, but she'll leave her kibble in the bowl all day. It's not her teeth because right around 7 - 8 pm, she is back in the kitchen at the drawer where she gets her dental stick from, which she gets once a day. I think if her teeth bothered her that she wouldn't be wanting those and her poops are so firm, that I don't think there is anything off with her tummy either. She is just being you know, molly. :)
We were going to go to Budapest to visit my brother in law and his fiancee, and spend some time in Vienna.
We'll go somewhere close by for a couple days or so and be happy. We really like to be home in the summers anyway. In September we're going to California, so it all works out.
Gads, heard about the virus down in the Carribean so don't wan to go there. I wonder if Bermuda or Bahamas are having any problems with that virus. I nixed the idea of Cabo San Lucas, which I'd thought about but too long of a flight for a couple days. Might be on my calendar this winter though. (if things remain good with molly that is) I love to travel and wish that molly did better with it. I'd love to be able to put her in the cabin on a flight with us and take her everywhere. She'd throw a major doggy fit I'm sure if I even considered that. My cat flew and wouldn't acknowledge me for days afterwards, but put him in a vehicle with my golden and they were set to go anywhere.
Looks like we'll have a nice weekend here! More gardening? :) My Friday is decent and making up for the rest of this work week. A friend keeps sending me links to dirty lyric songs on youtube (jokes) and is keeping me amused.
I love Vancouver Barbara, even better I love Vancouver Island and Victoria. We go often, as we have family there. PEI is pretty darn fabulous though and if you get a chance to go definitely do so.
Quebec City is another place that isn't too far and is absolutely wonderful. Another place we've been many times.
hugs all,
Sharlene and molly muffin
Sharlene, which dental stick do you give Molly? I wanted to get Koko some.
I have always wanted to visit Quebec City. Kate went on a fifth grade class trip.
Have a lovely relaxing weekend!!!
I give her the pedegree denta stix, small.
I tried her on the greenies, but the way she chews on them, I figure she was going to end up chocking on one. I have to watch her with that as she will try to swallow anything she has in her mouth if you get too close to her and she thinks you're going to take it away. She's been that way since I've had her so figure it was something from her previous life, protect what is hers.
There are some enzyme dental chews you can get too that are good, but molly gets overly aggressive with them and we had to stop giving them.
I'd think anything like that would work. Molly has been on these for at least 7 or more years.
You should definitely do a trip up to Quebec City and stay in the old town. In the summer time it's lovely! It's lovely in the winter too, in Feb when they have the festival, but it's way too bloody cold for me at that time of year. Great food! And the Plains of Abraham are very expansive. You can just see the seige and the fight for the city. It's awesome and if you get to Quebec City, then head out of town and take the hwy up the coast along the St. Lawrence, you can go all the way up to Taldussac and go whale watching, which is wonderful there! I do love that area of the world.

It does look like a blast doesn't it Susan!

So finally touched base with the IMS. She said she had been swamped with last weekend being a holiday weekend here and a lot of very sick animals coming in. She worked 50 hours in 3 days, so, I feel for her and was very understanding that molly isn't an emergency and we can talk when we both have time to really devote to the conversation.
First, Patti, because I know that you specifically wanted me to ask, she felt that at least with Molly a rupture wasn't likely. Never saying never of course, but she had only seen one ruptured adrenal tumor and it was one that had taken off and started to grow and the dog was on trilostane treatment at the time. This however, for us is a small tumor and likely benign or she felt that molly would be showing symptoms. She doesn't think an LDDS would do any harm, but she expects it to flat line again. She does not think this is a functional adrenal tumor due to both adrenal tumors being bilaterally enlarged and no sign of the other adrenal shrinking, which Should mean that this one isn't secreting cortisol. However, that is not to say it won't grow or change, so we'll redo ultrasound in a month. (that would be 3 months from last ultrasound)
UPC, yes I can do a free catch, she wants a urinalysis at the same time for each check. She felt that it was unlikely that the kidney stones would cause an elevation, because when you see that, you also see an increase in red blood cells, which molly only had a trace that was likely due to the needle and not stones. She didn't think it would be a factor, unless the urinalysis showed high red blood cell count.
We will also be doing liver test, especially ALKP/ALT and if I want to do a mini liver panel that is fine too, but we want to know where the values are at, and then we'll start the melatonin and lignans. Now the reason for this treatment is not to address the high cortisol and she is not classifying molly as a typical atypical because of the high cortisol, but she does think this is a fairly benign treatment, that won't hurt molly and the goal for us is to see if these, over a long term, would have any effect on Molly's liver values (if in fact it brings down the sex hormones, etc). So, for us it's about the liver right now.
The other option of what is causing the high cortisol for molly could be an underlying systemic disease. One of our biggest problems is that molly does not act like a dog with either cushings or a systemic disease.
She doesn't want to do a biopsy of the liver if not needed as she finds dogs with higher, uncontrolled cortisol can have bleeding during biopsy, it is risky. She also doesn't recommend operating on the adrenal gland at this time.
If none of this works with the melatonin/lignans for her liver, then we might try a very low dose of trilostane, monitored by ACTH to see what effect that the low dosage is having on her cortisol If any. That is an option in the future as she said she thinks we have time to try other options first.
I know there are probably things I forgot or didn't mention to her. I was trying to go through my notes that I had from our thread here and cover it all. Low Alderstone with adrenal tumors, usually functional adrenal tumors, we don't think molly's is. High sex hormones, would that be causing some cortisol to raise, some, not necessarily a lot though.
So, there you have it. We have a plan. Such as it is. Molly is a dog who doesn't exhibit any problems and it seems that makes it much harder to diagnose definitively.
