Our communicator sent some songs for Tasha and for Squirt that I use sometimes. I can't really see that they help Squirt with the CCD behavior but if I turn them up loud enough during storms, they do help. ;)

While there is no question Squirt has cognitive impairment her intelligence is still present. I have been watching her this week as she chose a spot to pee. Several times I have carried her out further so she wouldn't have to hobble around and she would turn and go back to this one certain area. At first I thought it just smelled like HER pee so that is where she thought she should go. This evening I finally understand what she is doing. That area has some raised roots and little dirt mounds. She is using those roots and mounds to put her front legs on so she doesn't have to squat so far to pee. She looks a bit like she is trying to see over the other side of the proverbial mountain! :p
Daisy does something similar. She has arthritis in one back leg so the less she has to squat, the better.
Leslie:
Where I used to live in Pittsburgh there was a slope to my yard. In order for Tipper to pee and it not run on her feet form the slope she learned to do a mini hand stand on her front legs when she pees. She still does it to this day and everyone that sees it laughs and comments on her hand stand. Hope all is well, I am on break from picking Toby up after his dental. I went and saw Delora- lets just say it is pathetic what she has been reduced to in there. WE have weather in the 50's and Tipper has had three walks. I am hoping Squirt is still doing well and Grace is doing better after the tumor removal? How was she at getting the staples out?? Blessings
Patti
Yep, she might have cognitive impairment but smart as a whip that girl is. :)
Molly never raises her leg with the bad joint, she always turns to the other side to lift the other one to pee. Sometimes she'll squat but not often, she thinks she is as alpha as can be. LOL

I called my GP and I go back to see him Wed about the arm. ugh I dread it and hope to get similar news to Addy's - just froze up but no surgery needed. Can't do surgery unless it is outpatient; no way, no how am I leaving Squirt for overnight. Might not even be able to do outpatient if no one could come stay at the house and help for a few days, I just don't know. I am really tired of the pain but I DO know, Squirt comes first for as long as she is here. I'll let ya'll know what he says just in case someone is wanting a vacation in central ARK! :p
Leslie:
I would gladly help, but it would be like a traveling mini zoo coming to you're house!! Blessings gs
Patti
oh gosh leslie! Definitely let us know. :( I hope no surgery is needed, but I don't like that the PT is causing less mobility. Maybe you need different exercises?
love
Sharlene
Leslie,
could you still have inflammation that is interfering with the PT? Might xrays help to figure this out?
((((((((Gentle, loving hugs))))))))
Leslie:
You and I need to go to a body parts place somewhere and get some new body parts? You are as stubborn as me when it comes to Squirt. I put Tipper's need before mine too, and that is just what I have to do also. Blessings
Patti
Ya know how the smallest things can make us so very happy? That works the opposite way, too. I had a fried egg for breakfast this morning, one of Squirt's very FAVs, and offered her the plate to lick as usual - she didn't want it. :(
((((((hugs))))))
Aw gheez what's up with that???
Back from the doc. Ever had a drunk arm?! :p Weird sensation! He is leaning toward a rotator cuff tear but because the motions I can do and some of the locations for the pain, he is confused. Xray of neck is good and shoulder's is ok - arthritis of course but nothing broken that he can see. So today he gave me a shot in the shoulder that is making it feel very weird; if this takes care of all the pain, then he will send me to the orthopedist. If it doesn't, then something is up with the nerves and we will look further. I am to stop all exercises that engage the muscles of that shoulder and use it as little as possible. He showed me some non-resistant exercises with a broom handle to do to keep them moving yet don't engage them. He will see me again in a month unless this shot doesn't help or things get worse - then I come on in.
As for Squirt, some days she is really tired; today is one of them. We also have some bad weather moving in today so that is having an effect as well. I did get the front nails done but haven't bothered her for the back yet. I planned to today but with her as tired as she is, it can wait plus I don't want to stress her and then she has to face the storms, too. ;)
Leslie, I hope resting your arm combined with the shot you got helps the pain. Those storms can really effect the pets...they sure have a 6th sense when it comes to weather. If they could talk they would be super stars of forecasting!! I hope Squirt is not distressed if any noisy storms roll in.
Barbara
Oh to be pain free. Just remember to definitely do the nonengaging exercises so the shoulder doesn't freeze up.
Poor Squirt, at this point in life, she just feels everything "more". More if there are storms coming, more if she is tired. I think we all do, people included!
hugs to you both

Leslie:
We are do for damaging winds and a storm tomorrow. Just great!! I will put the dap collar on Tipper and give her a melatonin. Hope Squirt is ok if you get this. Hope you feel better. Pain free what kind of state is that????? Never had that before and you probably haven't either. Blessings
Patti
Hi Leslie
Awww I hope Squirt has a better day tomorrow, oh ouch that injection sounds painful so I hope it does the trick and you don't need anymore of them.
I thought of you during the news tonight, there was this most horrific piece on those giant weta's, remember you posted on it ages back!! These ones are as big as sparrows. They have specially bred them and are now releasing them on an island up north somewhere. My god, they made my skin crawl, watching them crawl up the keeper's arm!! But thought I better keep you updated on the weta progress here :D:D so for your viewing pleasure... please don't have nightmares after watching this :p
http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/auck...o-wild-5884216 I just think why the heck would you want to bring more of those into the world...:rolleyes::D
Awwww. I don't like their off days. This winter was hard on Daisy too. It looks like we're finally done with it though. Now for the rain tomorrow.
Why did they have to make a GIANT weta? Couldn't they have just made a tiny one? :-( Beyond gross.
I hope that the exercises help.
AAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!! Giant Wetas defend themselves?!:eek::eek: Honestly, I hope the "little" boogers thrive on their new island...and STAY on their new island! :p
Squirt is feeling better this morning....until I put her in the truck to go to the groomers to finish her nail trim! :D She was a nervous wreck the whole ride, shaking like mad and repeatedly telling me I was violating her Bucket List. But it's like a10 minute ride to the groomers VS 30+ to the vet so it was over soon and she was on her way back home much calmer. When we got home, she actually pranced, well what is "prancing" for her these days anyway! ;) And she's able to walk with a bit more ease now.
I'm not sure the doc understood exactly what he was telling me when he said not to engage the muscles in this shoulder - unless I TIE it down, they are going to engage! But I am trying to remember not to use it unless I have to....and I forget but the knife pains remind me! ;):D The injection was not uncomfortable at all; he deadened my shoulder with a topical and spray. The needle was HUGE so I was glad for the deadening! Around 8pm last nite the anesthesia in the shot wore off and the injection site was a bit sore. The steroid should kick in sometime late today or tomorrow...and I can't wait to see if it works. I want to be rid of this pain, no question, but don't relish the idea of it being the cuff that is damaged. My doc knows how I am about things and is treating me very conservatively....and will continue to for as long as possible, he promised.
Time to get the tea ready since our storms are to start soon. I bought a NOAA radio yesterday, came home and put batteries in it, then plugged it in and dialed in my station for this area. As I was lying in bed last nite, I started hearing this hissing sound and thought something was wrong with one of the sinks in the bathroom....but it was the batteries in that radio! They were melting and putting off a liquid! I took the batteries out and unplugged the radio then cleaned it up. I don't know if there is something wrong with the radio or the batteries...or if you're not supposed to use both battery and electric sources at the same time, but something was bad wrong! So I'm gonna try to find out if it was my mistake or if I need to exchange this radio.
Leslie:
I have a weather radio and the batteries are not to work at the same time as the electric. They are only for power outages so you can still hear your radio. Maybe the radio is bad and it was using the two power sources together. Did you check the date on the battery pack to see how old they were. Stuff leaking out makes me think defective batteries too? Glad you got Squirts nails done. What is it with these Cush dogs and their toenails?? Tipper growls if you even look at hers! Blessings
Patti
Why do we want Giant Weta's again? I mean, I read, 190 million years old, don't want them to die out, etc etc, but why? Do they eat other bugs and are a natural deterrent to spiders or something? Why, why why do we want giant wetas???
Okay rant over. LOL
Hope the shoulder steroid works a charm Leslie. That is so cute that Squirt pranced after creating the whole fuss of going to get her nails done. LOL Women! hahahaha
That really doesn't sound right Leslie, something um..leaking in the radio?! Take that sucker back!

Leslie:
I hope Squirt is ok as I saw the weather and it said you had some real bad storms coming thru your area. We are to get the thunder tomorrow. I hope you are all doing alright. Blessings
Patti
Squirt is doing pretty well. :) She has been experiencing some pretty heavy panting at night but otherwise seems ok. We ran out of the Selegiline about a week ago and her refill hasn't come in yet so she is just on the Novifit now and seems to be the same as when on both. But I'm not sure how long it takes for the effects of the Selegiline to leave her system. The hardest thing for me to watch is her obvious pain. She will not accept any pain meds other than the Meta-Tinic (Metacam) which is hard on her liver. I pulse the Meta-Tinic - a few days on and a few days off - trying to spare the liver as much as possible and still provide a modicum of relief. But she "nips" my feet during meal times and still enjoys her food and outtings and lovings.
We had a bit of excitement around here the last few days. Night before last, I got out of the tub and heard a weird noise in the house. I tracked to the guest bathroom at the other end of the house - a hose had broken under the pedestal sink and water was shooting up the wall about 2 feet! The bathroom floor had about 2 inches of water on it that was pouring down the air vent; the carpet in the hallway and bedroom next to the bathroom was soaked about a foot or two out from the walls. This house has ONE shut off valve that shuts all the water off so we didn't have any water Sat night or most of Sun. Thankfully, I still had water in containers from a bit ago when we were supposed to lose water for a while due to a ruptured water main. I was up most of the nite Sat sopping up water with towels, putting them in the dryer, and sopping up more. A life long friend came over Sun and repaired it for me. What a blessing to be able to get up this morning and FLUSH THE COMMODE! :D The first thing I did when Jerry said it was fixed was run to my bathroom and FLUSH! :p I spent a lot of time Sat cooking and planned to wash all those dishes when I got out of the tub that nite. HA! You should see my kitchen now! It is piled high with things to wash. No hot water last nite so I will be washing dishes and doing laundry all day today. :D Guess I better get busy, huh?
The adventures never stop Leslie! LOL
Glad to hear that Squirt is still well Squirt and doing well. A nip at the feet definitely is "doing well" LOL

Leslie:
I think we could all write a book about all the mishaps we have all had since starting this journey, and pay for our outrageous vet bills!! We are to be getting rain and thunder any time now. Tipper had her Melatonin and collar on and she was huffing and puffing when the heavy rain started, so I do not see this collar calming her when the thunder starts. Just don't know I am going to do about this, it is very stressful for us both. Hoping Squirt is well and can't hear any thunder if you are having this too. Blessings
Patti
OMG thank god for Jerry!!:eek: panic stations with water flying about, man something you did not need! Hope you have some fine weather to dry all that laundry!!
Laughed when I read Squirt nips at your feet, sounds like she is trying to "herd" you to the fridge!! Smart girl!! Hope the rest of your week has been going a bit smoother for you and the gang! x
If ya'll could see her feet "nipping" you really would think it funny! She never closes her mouth but just pushes her open mouth against my feet. It looks like she's fixin' to take my leg off at the ankle when she's coming in but then she just presses my feet and pulls back, that mouth wide open, vicious teeth bared around a grin. :p:p:p
Leslie:
That Squirty girl is quite the character. That is so cute. Hope you are not getting this crappy weather down there. Thank God the other day we got no thunder. This dap collar is not working, all that is left is tranquilizers, I have tried everything available. It went down to 22 here last nite and the snow is still on the ground. Hope you are feeling better. Blessings
Patti
Leslie I have to tell you this whilst looking through the rescue sites I came accross this picture of a dog that facial wise looks so much like your squirt I had to look twice I've put a picture if him in my album see what you think
Hi Leslie, I'm happy to hear Squirt is doing well! I hope your shoulder heals fast!
{{{hugs}}} to Squirt
I had to go to town yesterday morning and when I was unloading the truck to the porch, I kept hearing an unusual, yet familiar, sound from inside the house. When I unlocked the front door, there stood Squirt, yelping her "Welcome home, Mom! Where have you been?":cool::cool: That is one heck of a "good thing today"! :)
Ooooh, how sweet. I'm sure your eyes welled up with tears.
Awww, how so very precious!!!
Awww, Squirt, that made me laugh. She sure is a character. I love it that she feels good and is giving you a yak about being away. :) :)

Hi Leslie:
I am sorry to hear about dear Grace. She has been through so much, but learned how to live within a loving family thanks to you. You have given her joy in the last part of her life, and cares for her every need. God Bless you both and have a blessed Easter as much as you can anyway. I know this is weighing heavily on your mind.
Patti
Squirt scared me yesterday morning. I woke up to the sounds of her gagging and she vomited that yellow foamy stuff again. Not that this is new for her, it's not and when it happens it is usually in the mornings before she eats, but how she acted after was. I offered a treat like I usually do when she does this just to put something on her tummy and she didn't want it Instead of starting to ask for breakfast like she usually has, she went into her closet and went to sleep. When I started fixing breakfast and the Barkfest started, she didn't come to the kitchen. The bowls were ready to serve and I was just fixin' to go get her when I heard her coming down the hall.
She ate her breakfast and enjoyed it and seemed ok the rest of the day. By lunch, she was nipping my feet again. :p
Glad Squirt's tummy is better, beagles are known for the empty stomach barf, so I am pretty familiar with it. Brando especially. Sometimes I have to coax him when that happens with something better than his usual treat, like a piece of banana or little slice of roast beef or low fat cheese, just to get his appetite going again.
What I do to try and avoid this is to make sure they get a good sized treat right before bed time so they don't go to bed on an empty stomach, it works most of the time.
Hugs! for Squirt :)
