Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Yay for good poops! Hopefully everyone is getting a handle on this epidemic that has been running wild. I am almost afraid to log on with the mucousy poop explosion!;):D:D:D
Loved the video Trish! It is obvious that my boy Flynny has a far superior intellect than the creators of that toy. To heck with all those stupid little bones. Just get the dang treat the fastest way possible. LOL :D:D That's my boy! Smack it around until the treats fall out. Makes perfect sense to me! ;)
I miss our late night chats, but must go to bed to keep up with all the kidlets. I am not getting any younger after all. ;) xxxx

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
That's a boy Flynn--you know how to outsmart the doggie casino and hit the jackpot,,just get Mom to pull off the danged little bone so the drawer will open! And not just smarts on the puzzle toy but good poops too!! :D That's what we like to hear. I think Trixie is going okay with that too..this morning all seemed pretty normal.
Yes..how about the wind during the US Open women's final!? That dress of Serena's was really blowing around. Our commentators mentioned that her dress blowing like that cost her a couple of faults...they felt it got in her way on a couple serves.
Well, we are lucky to have yet another cool and breezy day today. The kind of weather where you feel like getting up and out! Trixie had a great time outside this morning and that's good because starting tomorrow we are back to hot, humid summertime conditions! Hopefully that will be short lived and Fall will creep back in.
Off to try and accomplish something around here...Monday morning chores await. Hope Flynn continues to do fine! :)

Trish, what a cute vid! Flynn may not get the bones part, but he sure knows what's in those drawers!
(Have to admit, got a chuckle with the kiwi accent in the news in the background too)
Hope things keep going well, nice to hear Flynn is maintaining a relatively good run - scratchies and poop aside.

Okay, I have to go find the video as I so missed something good:o:o

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
I see your little green light on! Just posted a short update on Jasper, hopefully I can get everything organized to post his treatment and plan after work tonight.
Have to go in to work early today, ugh! But maybe that means I won't have to stay so late!
How is Flynn? Hope he is continuing to do well and the poop issue is stable now.
Hugs,
Tina and Jasper xo

http://s1296.photobucket.com/user/Tr...141fc.mp4.html Here you are Addy, just for you :D
Flynn is doing pretty good, still itching a lot though. Showered him last night and he a bit better today, rubbed in neotopic tonight sparingly so maybe that has helped as I have not seen him scratch tonight since I put it on.
He is due UPC after his benzapril increase 12 days ago. No drug side effects that I have noticed. Tummy seems settled, normal poop at 3am this morning but I wanted the tummy AND itching settled before redoing UPC, it only costs $45 for the test though. Maybe we will wait a few more days, will reassess and decide in the morning. I have to pop into vets in the morning anyway and pick up his Pentosan which is due now and I do not want his pain from arthritis getting bad again so I am keeping that up monthly.
Thanks for checking in on Flynnikin :D:D

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
It is funny to think of the opposite seasons on each side of the planet. The days are getting shorter already but today you would not know that summer is coming to an end. It is crazy hot with a side of sticky, muggy and humid!! Not a good walking day for Trixie, but after tomorrow we'll get back to some nice cool days. We did a short walk and she didn't seem to mind getting back into the a/c. This is always such a sad day in NYC...but of course people were out and about, the city in motion as usual. We were glad to get back into a cool place.
So poops all cleared up for Flynn...now the itchies must go!! Sounds like whatever you put on him may be doing the trick though? I hope so. Maybe a walk on the beach for him...I always think the salt air can cure anything! I grew up on an island too...never too far from the ocean air. Wish there was a beach I could take Trixie...no dogs allowed at beaches around here! Got to find someone with a private shore, poor Trixie lives so close to the beach but has never gone to one! Just want to see her on the sand at least once!
Hope you can figure a good time for the UPC test and that the results will be good!! :D

Awww Flynn still itchy. Maybe that neotopic did the trick.
So are you waiting or did you schedule a test?

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
Sorry to hear that the itching has continued. Have you changed any of his food or have him on a new med. Those can cause allergic reactions also. If he has flea allergy dermatitis, that is a bugger to get rid of! Poor Flynny. I hope his itchiness gets under control soon. Hugs to you and smoochies for my boy. Xxxx

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Good morning everyone!! Grey, rainy old Saturday here  I held off on the UPC Sharlene. Want to get him totally right before repeating it. Poops seem to be good *touch wood* but I did spot him eating grass this morning which can be an indication of upset tum but they are firm with sometimes only a touch of mucous!
Still the itching goes on periodically. I think it is coming right, then he starts itching for Africa!
No change in food Kathy, we are being stricter with the latest tummy upset. He is up to date with flea treatment, anti itch shampoo, blankets washed weekly, regular vacuuming, chamomile tea spray, loratidine for allergies, neotopic cream. I don't know what else we can do. He is quite itchy around his snout, rubbing it on the carpet. There are only a couple of very minor skin irritations. As I type this he is lying like a little lamb sleeping peacefully on the couch!! So maybe today is the day it totally settles, he is just about driving us mad with his constant backing into us to scratch his back! But I do think it is due to some sort of allergy, flea or environmental of some sort... likely causing an inflammatory cascade that affects IBD and in turn kidneys. Prednisone would be good to settle that down but both vet and I think that could be tricky for Flynn, we do not want to give it if we can get away without it, with just one adrenal gland and there is a little steroid in in the cream already.
Barbara, he gets a ton of sea air :D:D We are only about 200m from the waves, so he only has to step outside to get the benefits of that!! He does not swim in it though, water hating dog that he is :D
He has been extra hungry last few weeks, sometimes crying for food. But no increase in water or peeing, fur is good but cushings does cross my mind sometimes!
Anyway a bit of an itch is not too much to worry about compared with some on here so we are very lucky he is doing so well, he is now over 9 months post surgery! I think we will have a party when we get to the one year anniversary!! xx
-
Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
9 months since surgery for Flynn! He really came through with flying colors didn't he? It's great how it worked out so well!
What a great location to be so close to the beach, I can tell from your photos that it's just beautiful where you are.
Trixie is like Flynn and does not like the water either.
In the area where we walk in Central Park there is what's known as the Turtle Pond. (it is loaded with turtles). In the summer they "plant" a natural water cover on it because the sun and heat will produce too much algae and kill the turtles. So they plant/place water plants which cover the pond and keep the sunlight out. It's actually little green leaves which float/live on the surface, not slimy at all just the tiniest little leaves...from afar it almost looks like a lawn...you can barely see any of the water.
Well, Trixie did think it was something she could walk on because last year she trotted right in!! She looked at us in shock and all of a sudden began to swim...her first time ever submerged in water!! We could not believe it, I'm sure she thought she was on solid ground! She got out as fast as she went in and was definitely a bit scared while she was shaking out...all soaked and the tiny green leaves on her back. Luckily it was a super hot day so it probably felt good, but she stays so far away from that pond now. Too funny!
It's all cooled off here thank goodness! Hope your rainy grey day clears off for Sunday and that you have a nice day!! Glad Flynn has good poops, time for the itch to go away!! :)

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Poor Flynny boy, still has the itchies. Rosie has them too. I seem to attract little allergic pups.:o
WOW! 9 months post surgery. It is all due to your care Trish and an amazing dog. Flynny keeps going and going and going. Just like the Energizer Bunny.:D Yes! A blow out party at his 1 year anniversary is definitely a must! I hope we are all invited! ;):D
Give Flynny a nice massage for me and hugs for you. Xxxxx

Yay to 9 months! For sure do the one year party!

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
9 months!! Time flies & yay Flynn.
Pearl is extremely itchy right now. The vet just started having me give her Zyrtec. I hope it does the trick for her.
Hope all the itches go away for mr Flynn. I know it makes them so miserable.

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi all
We are still about, just not on here much as work has been full on and lately nights are spent with Dad as Mum is away for another trip then when I do get home I spend the time recovering on the couch!!
But we are good, Flynn is doing well. He still has a bit of the itch but I hope I am getting on top of it. It is a combination flea + environmental allergy of some sort, I showered him again yesterday and another frontline. I have been doing him regularly every 4 weeks as recommended, I think maybe the fleas have developed some resistance to the frontline as I saw one wash off him in the shower yesterday. I don't think the Loratidine helped much at all. Occasional mucousy poops only so I will not repeat UPC yet until that settles down. His vet is back in town later this week so I will catch up with him. But on the whole Flynny is very happy it is Spring!
We have just been up the beach for a walk, boy the weather is turning fast... positively hot today!! Well mid 70s, so not boiling but it is definitely warming up here. YAY!
Will try and pop in more often xx

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
Busy and tired, sounds about like our house these days. Long hours at work and all I want to do is fall asleep at the end. Molly is definitely doing some acting out (like that isn't her speciality anyway) due to less play time this past week.
Those dratted fleas can be a real bugger to get rid of for good once they get a foot in the door so to speak.
So mum is off on another trip. :) My MIL is always off and about somewhere. She is just back from Budapest and planning on joining us here in October for a couple weeks. She's in her 80's. :) :) I want to be able to travel like that when I'm in my 80's too!!
Glad that Flynn is doing well, have to get those mucus poops over and done with though. I'm of the same mind, not a lot of point in doing some tests when things still need to be cleared up, I think it just throws the results off and not be trusted over all.
Hope you have a good week!
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
Over all, a pretty good report.:p That mucousy poop doesn't sound good though. I hope whatever's causing it clears out soon. Drat, poor Flynny, still has the itches. I think fleas we're put on this earth to make everyone miserable. Pesky little buggers! ;) I am glad to hear that you're both doing well otherwise. Xxxxx

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
Sorry Flynn still has the itchies..can you see for sure that it's fleas? Boy I hate when I see those mucus poops! Otherwise Flynn seems to be doing well. Funny how you're starting to get the warm days and when we're starting to cool down. Flynn's happy for the Spring and Trixie is loving the Fall here.
Hope Flynn continues to feel good! Lucky boy getting to go to the beach so often! :p

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Thanks girls for checking in on us :)
I rang the vets today to see when ours will be back at work and it was not until the end of next week. I did not want to make Flynny wait that long with the itchies so booked him in to see the 2nd in charge guy.
He was very nice too, I love a vet who greets Flynn by getting down to his level letting him sniff his hand in greeting and then he gave Flynn a good old pat!! So we were off to a great start!
He did the general check over, few spots around his tail a little reddened, one area with a bit of hair loss and red underneath where he has been scratching. He checked his anal glands much to Flynn's disgust! He agrees it is a likely allergy to fleas, or something environmental. Hard to tell really. He said we are in for a bad flea season with such a mild winter. He had obviously checked over his recent results and mentioned his liver tests which are high and did say sometimes strange liver tumours can manifest with skin problems :eek: but then quickly said unlikely with Flynn.
He said use of antihistamines in dogs can be hit and miss and the loratidine had not done much to help. He said straight off I do not want to give him Prednisone orally with his history. But he has prescribed a topical spray called Cortivance which has to be applied daily for a week. Also try Phenergan to hopefully settle it down. He was not to worried about the occasional mucousy poop and hopefully that will continue to settle down, if not we could look at changing his protein from venison to something else maybe possum again. I am going to give him the hypoallergenic biscuits again. Last time we tried them he got sick, but we are not sure if that was due to the flare of IBD or the biscuits so worth another try. He agreed not to do the UPC until we get this under better control. The cortivance spray has a special warning on the leaflet for the vet to weigh up benefit/risk before prescribing for cushings dogs (which Flynn is not, but thought might be helpful for anyone cushing owners if considering that treatment?) the blurb also states that very little is absorbed systemically. He also suggested fish oil to help with his skin and we looked at his supplements and he thinks what he is getting is enough.
So hopefully this new treatment zaps the itch! Poor Flynny is a bit down in the dumps tonight, just laying about and cannot go outside except for pit stops as a storm is here

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
Unfortunately with allergic dogs, you may never figure out what is causing the itchiness. It's trial and error while treating symptoms. :o Poor Flynny. The itchiness and a storm too! I hope it blows through quickly so Flynny can skip off to the beach happy once more.:p. xxxxx
-
Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Kathy! :D
We have maybe have seen an improvement the last couple of days with the spray! Fingers crossed :)
The storm is long gone that was days ago! Saturday morning here and we are heading out soon to walk for Prostate Cancer which is a charity close to my heart!! I set up our local support group a few years back and it does my heart good to see the men so active in promoting it now. Flynny is to be painted blue (well not all of him, maybe a couple of stripes!) it is along our beachfront up town and we have a few friends joining us to hopefully we will raise a few dollars for research etc into this insidious disease. xxxx

What a great way to start the weekend with a jaunt for a good cause along the Beachway. Yay for itchiness being better.
Our fall seems to be moving in pretty steady, the nights are cooler and the days feel cooler, even when it is still warm in the sun.
Have a great weekend!

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
So glad to hear that the topical spray is starting to improve Flynn's itchiness! I love that the vet got down on Flynn's level to say hello!! Sounds like he's a nice guy :) Too bad poor Flynn had to put up with an anal gland check!! Don't blame him for being unhappy about that!
Wow...what about the end of the America's Cup?! I wasn't following all that closely but I did know that New Zealand was ahead throughout so when I heard on the news that USA had won I was so surprised, thought they must have had it wrong.
Did Flynn enjoy the charity walk? What a good boy to join in and help raise some money...I bet he got a lot of attention from everyone. Did he get his blue stripes painted on? ;)

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi all
Yes the walk was lovely yesterday thanks, we all dressed in blue and raised a bit of money! Poor Flynn at the end though it was pretty sad, they had a sausage sizzle and he was not allowed any :( so me and my friends did not prolong the torture and walked back into town for brunch!!
Hmm don't get me started on the America's Cup Barbara :D It is hardly Team USA when the only American on Oracle was the youngest present, the skipper was Aussie, the tactician English and other Kiwis were also sailing. They cheated in the lead up races, were caught and docked points. Then once the finals got underway NZ was thrashing them 8:1 in the first to get to 9. Then they called "time out" postponed racing for the day and got these NZ boat builders in to tinker with the boat. Then out we go to resume racing and man could they fly, it was like an aeroplane zooming around the course. We could not keep up which is very strange don't you think when we had been doing so well. Plus 3 times the race was called off when NZ was in front because of "weather", not enough wind, too much wind, sea was too wet (OK that last one was a cartoon in the paper)!!! So to say eyebrows are being raised in NZ about the ethics of this competition is an understatement. It seems our little country cannot compete with the billions of Larry Ellison.
Anyway the rugby is on today so I am off out again for the match!
Flynn is good, he has already chased the next door cat! Still scratching at times  xxxx

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Kathy
We were posting at the same time, I took a couple on my phone but they suck! So I have changed his avator back to his pic from the walk last year, he looked pretty much exactly the same as this!! He was the star of the walk, the only dog there and he led the way :D:D
-
Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish,
I have no doubt that my Flynny boy was the star of the walk. He was leading mere mortals after all.:D:D He is definitely one of the stars of this forum!:) xxxx
-
Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Kathy!
Aww your sweet, they are all stars in our eyes aren't they :D:D:D
Just got in, been walking up the beach, chilly tonight but taking advantage of our first day of daylight savings, the clocks went forward last night!! He scampered down the beach and I could not make out what he was up to but I think possibly eating something :eek: Time will tell on that one!
Took Dad to the rugby this arvo, was a lovely day and we won the game... Dad was a rugby player in his younger days, he always gets a tear in his eye when they score, is so nice. So we ate hotdogs and jaffas and had a lovely afternoon! Mum looked after Flynny so he was well due for a walk when I dropped Dad off and picked him up.
Have you had a good day?

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Hi Trish :)
Work has been unusually tough this year. So many needs and not enough of me to go around. I have been coming home exhausted. It seems like all I do is run around and put out little fires. I haven't been able to get much else done.:o
Today was one of those fun days with housecleaning, caring for seniors, and laundry. That's my typical Saturday. It does sound like you had a fun day though.:)
You know that Flynny holds a special place in my heart. Gotta love that boy! :D xxxxx

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Awww he is a little sweet pea and easy to love.... funny when I found him 12 years ago roaming the streets and took him home, he ate my new pair of shoes that very first night :D Never having owned a dog prior to that EVER I thought hmmmphhhhh your not as cute as you look little dog and handed him in to the SPCA. He was there a week till I rang to check if his owner have claimed him and found out no one had and he was on death row:eek::eek:! When I went and picked him up there he was in his cage barking himself hoarse with all the mean looking pitbulls next to him!! I still feel guilty for leaving him there now.

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Shame you have been so busy, it sucks getting home so tired and still having stuff to do at home! I am hanging out for the week off I have scheduled in 3 weeks time! I am not going anywhere, I so want to get in my garden and get it sorted out for summer and plant some veg and a few flowers for a bit of colour! My Saturday's are like yours, cleaning and laundry. It takes 3 loads to get all Flynns stuff done alone! I wash all his blankets and pads and there are a lot of them plus he has a soft sided bed and that gets washed too! But have been out quite a bit this weekend too, so now its Sunday night and still feel like I need a day of rest... I always say on the weekend, right... I am sleeping in till lunchtime but the problem is I get bored with that by 9ish and end up and about :D But here we are Sunday night, the laundry is done but not much housework!!

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
Weekends go by much too fast. It's hard to get fun and relaxation into all the stuff that needs to be done.
Molly got a bath though yesterday! So now she is all fluffy and clean at least. Very fluffy. LOL
ohh, what do you plant in your garden for the summer?
Back to furniture moving! :)

wash,:eek::eek::eek:
that is a four letter word in my house:D:D:D:D:D
I cant believe how many loads of wash two adults and two dogs can make. I do a load every night and then the big stuff on the weekends.
I dont understand why we cant invent a machine that will automatically sort the clothes then put them in the washer, auto spit out detergent and then go into a dry cycle when done all in the same machine;);););)
Hope you all have a good week!!!!

Re: Flynn 11 y/o Foxie Cross - Right adrenalectomy, 3rd Dec 2012 for Pheochromocytoma
haha Addy--soon there'll be an APP for that!! :D
Trish,
How did I miss your thread the last couple of days and the new photo of Flynn at the walk!!! MY he is a handsome boy!! I am sorry this good dog did not get any sizzling sausages but we don't want to tempt the bad poop gods do we??
I agree with everything you said about the America's Cup!! It is unfair in many ways. Looks like Larry Ellison's ego has ruined the race. Too bad...don't these billionaires have anything better to do????
Glad Flynn is doing well and out and about raising money for charity and looking so cute while doing it!! :D
