Re: Introducing Fraser
Wow, Naomi, you've had a time of it since coming back from Singapore. You not feeling well and Jasper's bouts with nausea and the runs.
Literally it is one day at a time it seems and to be even more cliche, you can only do what you can do and that is to give him the best time he can possible have and the love and security for as long as he is still showing that spark. :)
I bet you are looking forward to holidays! Our next holidays here is in October for Thanksgiving, but I'll be working day before and day afterward, so no fun there. Bah humbug. LOL
Great to hear from you.
hugs,

Re: Introducing Fraser
OMG What these kids put us through!
Over the course of the weekend, Fraser was so nauseated, low energy and just not eating anything, I went to work monday morning and broke down thinking this was it. I'd contacted the vet on Sunday morning and got some nausea meds for him (metaclopromide or maxolon), came home monday after work and the little turd was full of energy. He'd eaten biscuits during the day, went to the park and chased his ball for 40 minutes!:eek::eek: ate his dinner and then flaked out for a good nights sleep. I am giving it to him 2x a day, gave him an extra one last night as he was licking the air again, but was fine this morning. (He can apparently have it 2-4 times a day, so if we get by with 2x for now that's good.)
Got home today and he was wagging his tail all happy to see me again, went the the park (was raining and too wet to play ball so we just walked) but then got home and presented me with a toy to play with. WTH!!! Ate his dinner again and is now out for a good nights sleep again. I think I am noticing that the meds must kick in about 20-30 minutes after taking it, cause he gets all peppy and bossy about that time, he must feel so much better. It does say a side effect could be increased energy - who am I to complain? I welcome that side effect with open arms! Just so glad he has picked up! Until next time anyway.
Talk about the emotional roller coaster. I want to say thanks to Lori and Kathy on the SEB idea, didn't see it till after speaking to the vet but will keep it in mind for when/if he needs that extra bit of help in the next few months. I am concerned though, I have read somewhere that it can interfere with absorption? Is that just with meds taken within a few hours or can that be for food consumed as well? He is so skinny and his liver is almost kaput, I don't want him to have to process something else if he can't even get the nutrients from the small amount of food he does consume.
So small update for this week, will stop by again when I get the chance, busy week, 2 concerts this week and exams to finish writing. Oh joy......

Re: Introducing Fraser
Hi Naomi,
What a great update! So good to hear Fraser is feeling better with the new med.
The SEB will need to be given 2 hours either side of meds - 2 hours before or 2 hours after. SEB has quite a few nutrients itself, too, and can help with nausea and loss of appetite. It acts sort of like an internal bandaid, protecting the mucous membranes. Since I typically give meds in food to Squirt, she gets SEB separate from all food and meds. However, Trink seldom has meds in her food so she gets the SEB in her food and I've not noticed any problems.
I hope our little guy continues to feel good and brings you many toys to play with.
Hugs,
Leslie and the gang

Re: Introducing Fraser
Oh Naomi,
Your update on Frasier made my heart happy!:p:p:):):) xxxxx
SEB does not interfere with the absorption of nutrients from food. However, it could interfere with the absorption of meds and supplements. That's the reason for the two hour window that Leslie mentioned.
GO FRASER!!!!!!!

Re: Introducing Fraser
Awwww Naomi, it's always so good to hear that Frasier is feeling playful and full of energy. If that is a side effect well, it's not a bad one for this situation at all. I know you just love to have him acting like his old self. Hmmm, maybe I need some of that, feel a bit run down by the end of the day. LOL
Yikes! you have a really full week!
Take care and hugs,

Your week will fly by being so busy, it all sounds so interesting though with the concerts. Hope it goes fast and you get to enjoy the weekend with the boys! xx
