I bet she is having a fabulous time!!! It's nearly a week already and then we can hear all about her adventures... I bet Boycie is having fun too, be so nice for her to relax :):)

I am doing better this morning. Going back to the vet's office yesterday with a heavy heart over Buddy, turned my stomach upside down. I asked for a different exam room than the one that I said goodbye to Buddy in. Thank you for that Leslie.:p I couldn't feel Buddy's loving presence until Rosie joined the family. Now it envelopes me in a cloud of peace and love. I can only feel it at home. In Buddy's domain. It still feels like he is on guard duty watching out for all of his family. I have seen several lizards In the backyard the past few days. Rosie does not even notice them. Lucky little buggers!;) The bird over the fence has been squawking and calling louder since Buddy passed on. It has gotten no reaction, poor thing. It looks like the game is over! Rosie just looks around when she hears it, then stares at me. Once I tell her it's okay, she is over it. Rosie is not much of an explorer like Buddy was. She prefers to hang close to wherever I am. That might change as she grows and finds her unique roll in the family. Buddy lives on!xxxxx

I must have missed something, did you take Rosie to the vets? I am so happy she has a space in your heart, and your folks seem like they are kind of accepting of her. She probably has her own little personality, that will keep coming out in the weeks to come. How much does she weigh now? I even forget how old she is? God Bless you and Rosie and God Bless Buddy. Yes Patti, Rosie is great, although I think she is part monkey!:D I took her to the vet for her puppy check and first shots. I started a thread just for Rosie. It is in the "Everything Else" section. It is called, "Rosebud Blooms." Xxxxx

It has been 10 days since Buddy left me. I miss him so much! I miss him smiling so wide when I came home that he closed off his nostrils and would sneeze continuously. I miss him being the last one I see at night and the first one I see in the morning. I miss days off and breaks, when we could cuddle a little longer in the morning. I miss his crazy lizard hunts and bird alerts, I miss him on guard duty in the window when I got home. I miss so many things that I took or granted. Most of all, I miss him being there no matter what. Rosie is adorable, loving and sweet, but she's not The Mighty Lizard Hunter!:o

Buddy was a special star in his own right. I loved getting on the site and hearing about his adventures. You have kept yourself together remarkably well, I probably will not be as together as you when Tipper's time comes. Her and I are joined at the hip. She has quite an extensive vocabulary that she understands from me talking to her all day long. She is the best friend that I have ever had. Seeing what happens to these babies and knowing what her fate is sickens me when I think of it. She is a permanent part of my identity, you never see me without her. I just would not know how to act without her, and that is scary. I don't think you took anything Buddy did for granted. You loved him with all your heart, and did the most unselfish thing a loving owner could do for him. That is unconditional love any way you look at it. That is one thing about this group when they say they know what you are going thru they really do. God Bless you and sweet Buddy.

I've been off line for weeks, and I just read through your thread about Buddy. I am so sorry for your pain, but glad that he didn't have to suffer. It takes a strong and special person to do the right thing, and Buddy was a lucky guy to have you there to do it for him.

I'm heading over to see the pics now and check on Rosebud's thread. I was chanting, "get a puppy, get a puppy, get a puppy" as I read, and then yelped a cheer when you posted that you were going to be able to get one. I think it is important that when there is space in the home of a dog lover, that another dog gets to live the good life. They don't replace the other furbaby, but they certainly do help, and it means there is one less homeless baby in the world. Hugs to you.

I really miss hearing about Buddy! Can't believe 10 days has gone by...seems like so much has happened. What you were going through the last few days with him, and now with a new puppy. It's been a difficult and sad time for you...but I think you made all the right decisions...right thru to getting Rosie.
He was such a happy loving dog and you gave him such a great full life. Of course you miss him like crazy! Rosie isn't a replacement for Buddy but thank goodness you have her! You two need each other now! :p

I am seeing Buddy everywhere at home. I found some of his hair in the brushes that I got out to use for Rosie. Lizards are all over the place, which is unheard of when Buddy is around. All of his things surround me, many if which Rosie is now using. Rosie even has his toys, except for Froggy ( which was Buddy's friend). He is mine now. I have Buddy's special cuddle blanket that I am keeping also. I miss him so much. First thing in the morning is the hardest time for me. That was when he would be especially snugly. Once his day started, he didn't have time for such foolishness. He was too busy hunting and guarding. He was such a loving little friend. I still want him back, but know it can not be.

HI Kathy, sounds like you need a big hug to send you off to bed with!! Those little things, like a piece of hair must be sad. I think they only ones happy with not having Buddy around are those lizards!!! Must get Rose on lizard patrol before they take over :) Hope you have a good sleep sweet xx

Rosie is a big love bug. She is the kissiest little thing! She wants nothing more than to be doted upon every minute of the day. She is not the least bit interested in critters of any kind. She doesn't even notice the lizards allover the place, and could care less about birds invading her airspace. She is an adorably sweet little girl, but she's no mighty lizard hunter!

She still young, probably still scared of lizards :D

I wish I had the power or a magic wand to change things for you. I would get a healthy Buddy back for you. I keep lots of fur off of my babies that pass. My Tipper has a certain sweet smell to her I put my face on her and smell her everyday, as I never want to forget that smell. When my dad passed I kept his favorite jacket I could smell him on it for a long time. When I go to it now, I don't know if it is just wishful thinking or foolishness, but I still can smell my dad some 25 years later. I have purposely saved all of Tipper's hair from her haircuts. I never want to be with out it. Even if I snip the most tiny little hair off of her I save it. There is a lady that takes dog hair from your dog, and uses a photo of your dog and makes a miniature dog that looks like yours out of your dogs hair. They are beautiful, and a real treasure to have. Just throwing some of these things out there, as when the time comes we don't think of any of this. They also have a bracelet that holds some of your babies hair inside it. I could not go the diamond route, that they make out of your baby. That is not for me. I am sure Buddy is looking down on your yard and watching the lizard population grow, and wanting to come back and chase them. There could only be one Lizard Hunter so I think it is a good thing Rosie has left that job alone. Buddy was so unique, that there will never be anything to take his place in your heart. I know this has to hurt you terribly, but I commend you on how stoic you have been at holding up. God Bless you and Rosie, and Buddy.

Aww Kathy, I'm glad you kept the cuddle blanket and Froggy for yourself as a special way to hold Buddy close to your heart.
I had a schnauzer growing up from when I was about 11 until I was in college when she died, her name was Misty. She was a different personality type than Trixie. I still have her collar with her id tag on it. The other day in my sewing box I found an old wooden spool of thread (don't think they come in wood anymore!) that Misty once got and chewed a bit on the end (she was a rascal)..I'll always keep it because it reminds me of her. She chewed that spool over well 40 years ago!
Rosie can't be the mighty lizard hunter...that title has been taken. But no doubt she'll find her own special qualities as she grows. Right now she's just the most precious puppy! :p

I am actively looking for a solution for Tipper's fear of these storms. I am working diligently on it hoping to come up with something. I hate to see her like that it kills me. Tipper is so allergic to so many things including medications that I am trying to find another route to go. I haven't passed the stone yet. I am still straining the urine, oh what fun. Found a few very tiny crystals, so unless it has broken down into smaller crystals it is still in there. Blessings

Three weeks today, I said goodbye to my Mighty Lizard Hunter. The lizards have come out from all their hiding places to have fiestas poolside. They are everywhere now! Rosie doesn't even notice them! I miss Buddy so much. :(:oIt seems like he's been gone forever! My life will never be the same without him.We always knew what each other wanted and needed without words. He taught me how to love unconditionally. He never cared how much money I made or whether I even dressed or showered. He never cared whether the dishes were done or whether I vacuumed at all. He was a non-judgemental little friend who loved me for me. Having Rosie does help. She gives me a reason to go on, as she needs me now. Buddy was a forever love who was a precious gift. I am blessed to have had him in my life. He left me much too soon which has left a huge hole in my heart. I will never get over losing him.

Very well said. I know even though Rosie is no substitute for Buddy, I am glad you have her to keep you company. There are once in a lifetime dogs, and sweet Buddy was yours, the way Tipper is mine. This disease is so cruel to the caregivers of these babies. I hope one day it will be wiped out. I think the lizards are all coming out to say their goodbyes to Buddy, as he was a force to be reckoned with. Buddy is looking down from heaven and I'm sure he's saying " Rosie aren't you going to get those lizards?" I miss you writing about the cute things Buddy did. God Bless you Buddy and Rosie.

oh Kathy I know how u feel, I too miss the stories of your little lizard hunter, I'm so glad you have them to hang on to....I too kept a blanket that I haven't washed yet, it's on the floor by my bed....more then several times a day I need my Simba fix and go smell it....this is so hard....I'm so thankful that this site exists and that I got to be friends with you and so many others...missing your Buddy too, hugs Letti!

Kathy, I think we all miss Buddy.. we got to know him so well from your posts and photos! It's so hard to think of him being gone. What a great life he had though...a happy, happy little guy who got so much love and attention and gave it right back to you! In time thinking of him will be less painful though it will never be without getting misty-eyed.

I agree with the others. We all miss Buddy. His antics were such a hoot and we loved the lizard stories. He was truly a gift.
It's been a tough month around here. Too many precious ones have been lost and too many hearts broken.
It is uplifting though to welcome new family members, like Rosie and Meeko, Henry, whose lives will be so enriched and better for having found homes such as yours and whose paths were paved in gold by the angels who walked before them.
