Re: Lucygoo
There is nothing like home, home sweet home. The first week of recovery at home is rough on the parent, I think, it was for me anyway. Just be sure to ask the vet all your concerns and see which medications you can add or tweak for Lucy.
Arthritis or soreness or both? My dog after surgery was unable to walk without a sling for at least 4 days and it took her like a month to walk like before. The way they positioned them for surgery, make their joints to be sore and the sudden drop in cortisol really affects them.
I am sooo glad that Lucy is home. You'll be amazed how quickly they bounce back to normal.

Re: Lucygoo
THanks everybody:)
Well, last night was kind of odd....I put her to bed and after about 2 hours she started to just pant. Laid down with her and pet her for awhile....then it seemed like she was either hot or in pain or both, so I brought her canine cooler mat in, put it on top of her bed and positioned her on it...that seemed to work for a few minutes...then she started panting again. Helped her up, brought her to the kitchen, and she was voraciously hungry...at 3 am:eek: Ate a whole can of i/d (food she's on now), and half a can of w/d...put her back to bed, and she slept like a rock for the rest of the night:) It's amazing the little things that make me happy now. She ate another 3/4 can of food at 7:30, we went out, and she did her business:D I know...you guys have got to be going...ah, jeez...every little thing now:rolleyes:
But I know you know how it is.
Will post again with the next exciting detail of our lives soon:D

Re: Lucygoo
Thanks Lori....
Question for you guys. Pretty soon I'm going to transition Lucy into regular food. She still has to be on just soft for a while because of incision, and was wondering if you guys had any preference for food. She's been on everything from Dogswell to Solid Gold and everything in between when I was trying to get her to eat, but is there one that's fairly high in calories but not so high in fat that will give her diarrhea? She's very prone to that. Dr. B said any food, but I'm sure you guys have some ideas on what I should start with. It's just good to see her with such an appetite again:)

Re: Lucygoo
Hi friends....Now that I'm here at home with Lucy I'm going to be posting ALL DAY LONG:)
Forgot to mention that Lucy has a slight corneal ulcer they found yesterday in left eye. They think it's from bumping her head on that side...she's still having left-sided problems. Dr. B put her on Neo-Poly-Bac ointment every 8 hours, and took her off the artificial tears for now. It doesn't seem to bad, so hopefully it will heal soon.
Hope all is well with everybody...

Re: Lucygoo
Hi Gina,
Honestly, if Lucy is liking and eating the prescription diets, I'd keep her on them for the time being. Give her mouth time to heal and don't chance having her throw up or get diarrhea....poor girl has been through so much.
As for the panting...well, I've had major oral surgery more than a few times and even though they say the mouth heals faster than any other part of the body, it hurts like heck for several days. If I were a dog, I would have been panting instead crying or moaning so I'm not surprised that Lucy is doing some heavy panting.
Glynda
P.S. I'm glad that your girl is back home with you and that you are home all day and able to keep us posted on the latest. We're all interested in every little thing that is going on with Lucy. She's a celebrity here and if she could write, I'd being asking for her autograph. :D

Re: Lucygoo
Hi Glynda...It's funny, she's not panting at all during the day. (And she stopped last night/early morning as soon as she ate.) I'm keeping her on her canine cooler and she seems to like that. I just feel bad that she can't get up when she wants. I hope the Cosequin starts working sooner rather than later.
As far as her being a celebrity...you should see her at the hospital. All she needs is sunglasses and a scarf. I think she misses all the attention. Now she's looking at me as if to say.."All right. This is boring."
Take care everyone,
Gina and Lucy
