Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
hahaha, you guys are all correct, Molly does run our house.
I freely admit that she is spoiled rotten and it's gone on for years and years. I think it goes back to that first day that we saw her. She'd been brought down to Ontario in a truck with a whole lot of other dogs, rescued from a high kill shelter in northern quebec. So this was the adoption center. Everyone who went that day had already been preapproved for adopting a rescue dog from this organization. She was the one in her wire crate, shaved down to the skin almost due to how matted she'd been, curled in the corner, shaking and shivering and wouldn't look at anyone. My husband picked her up and never put her down again. I took care of the paperwork finishing up and we took her home and started to spoil her immediately I think. This personality of hers, developed as time went by. I think it was just the real her, waiting for a family to love her and her to love them for it to come out.
She is also, however, incredibly loyal to us and doesn't actually end up having too much separation anxiety now. She will never eat as good on a day that I'm at work though, as she will on a day I'm working from home. So I know it's still there to some degree.
They told me her name was Lady, and even though I tried calling her Lady, she never responded, so because she came from a french speaking area (solely french I'd say), I tried, Madame, Mademoiselle, and ever other variant of Lady I could think of. Finally I looked at her and said, you look like a Molly, so that's your name, no more of this Lady stuff. (she doesn't look like a lady she looks like a ragamuffin princess that will be in trouble the moment your back is turned).
That is funny about the head bunting Addy. Molly gets a tiny treat broken into pieces when my husband comes home from work. The go to the couch and she gets in his lap, and she does high fives with her paw till he breaks a piece off for her. If she doesn't think he's moving fast enough (always), she'll bunt his hand with her nose and stick her paw in the air, like come dad already, high five me!
I think Molly's definitely rules our roost. Must be the name :) (love your walk down memory lane soggydoggy, what a wonderful memory)
Susan, don't let Bailey read this thread! Lord knows what bad habits she'd pick up from Molly! A grumble here a grumble there, next think you know, it's a constant complaining about everything. sheezzz brats!

Sharlene: So glad you rescued Molly and she is so wonderful and so much love. I am sure you cannot think of life without her. She seems to be a healthy girl. Of course all the dachshunds I have had were given to me as six week old babies, so I have no one except myself to blame for their bratty ways. We should have known when this tiny CoCo walked in he went all over the house and claimed it. He is still the alpha dog and we seem to be his subjects most of the time, especially since his sickness. Now his thing is getting us up at 2:30 in the morning to go out. My husband gets up at 4:00 so most of the time he gets up with him at 3:00. Any ideas on helping him to sleep until at least 4:00. I have tried Melatonin before he goes to bed, but has not helped as of yet. I think it is habit, but I cannot seem to break this habit. Otherwise, he is doing great on the 20 mg, just hair loss. I hope Molly continues to do good and has no problems. Love, JoAnne

What a sweet story about Molly.. she most definitely deserves to be spoiled forever!! :D
Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
I love the Molly story:):):):) and she sure is one pretty little sweetheart. She would walk all over me too, I'm afraid. Id melt every time she gave me that Molly look.
I remember when I first brought Zoe to work to meet everyone one of my bosses said "Oh, she's fluffy, you like fru, fru dogs!" I never thought about it that way but yup I guess I am guilty of that:p:p:p:p
what's a fru fru dog anyway?:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:cool::rolleyes:
Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
LOL Addy, a little fluff or (fru fru) never hurt anyone. ;)
I NEVER thought my husband would the guy sitting around talking to the little white fluff ball on his lap and curling up to sleep with her. :p (I thought that was Me!!)
So, now I'm going to tell him, you like fru, fru, dogs!:D:D:D
A fru, fru = Zoe!!! ROFL! of course!
We love her obviously and cannot imagine life without her in it. In fact if we are home and she isn't, like we got in too late to pick her up after an "away" time, neither of us particularly like it. The house feels empty without her larger than life personality in it.
We do both worry, because although I tend to tell happy stories and she Does usually act like she is 100% A-okay, we know she has something wrong with her and don't know what or what to do and that worries us. We also wonder if her belly is getting bigger and does that mean her liver is getting larger or is it our imagination. And some days she doesn't feel as well as others, so sleeps more, doesn't eat or drink as much. The drinking we really have to keep on her to do, because of the crystals that form as soon as she doesn't drink enough. How can a dog with high cortisol, which the ACTH says she has NOT drink enough! That is mind boggling to me.
However, we'll keep on with the happy stuff and try to protect her and keep testing and whatever, till we get this figured out. It's been a couple years now since the first LDDS test for cushings. Now 3 negative LDDS behind us and one positive ACTH, it's crazy :(
Hugs,

Sharlene ( I don't have a fancy signature) :D
Re: Molly, 9 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Sharlene,
I know how frustrating it is to not know what's going on. I feel like we're kind of in the same boat. I only did one LDDS and it was positive, but Hannah has not had any worsening in her symptoms, and really doesn't have the main Cushing's symptoms. She does now have the ALT elevated too, which it was not before. Plus we had the strange bouts with borderline anemia from time to time. It is so baffling. I'm thinking I'll have some blood work done in a couple of weeks just to see how things are looking. At this point, my vets think I should just go by her symptoms, since she is an old lady and I don't want to do anything invasive. There are some days that I really wish I knew what was going on with her though. I'm glad to hear Molly has more good days than bad, and that she is such a happy, loved little girl!

Hey gang, just wanted to let you all know I'll be away this weekend. Heading for even more cold! Must be nuts! LOL It's snowing here now even.
I can probably read threads on the iphone, but doubt any of you would even understand my typing if I try to answer! (although I might give it a go, we'll see how That works out)
See you all when we get back!
