Re: Molly, 11 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Thank goodness some good news, whew:):):):):):):)
That sure is scary about your bil. Wow- I still am shocked about it. Thank goodness he is more stable now.
You better get all the rest you can now before hubby comes home and you have to put on your nurse's outfit:D:D:D:D;)
Re: Molly, 11 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Pleased to hear you're ending the week with some positive news. When does hubby come home? I hope they manage to work out a solution for BIL.
Hope you manage to get some rest
Re: Molly, 11 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Hubby will come home monday unless he blows the coop on sunday. He asked them if he could leave on sunday when he checked in and they said yes, but he has to decide on saturday. Not so sure he's going to feel like prancing out of there just like that. Snap! We'll see.
His mom even said, hmm, he should stay as long as they'll keep him, less time you have to run around and do for him. hahahahaha See, even his mom Knows what boys are like when they don't feel good. (course she did have 4 of them, crazy woman!)
I know he misses being here with me though. He didn't want me to leave today when visiting time was over and was so happy, kept saying I'm so glad you are here and then scooted over and said, here lay down. yea, have you seen those little hospital beds?!!! Well, he wasn't taking no for an answer, I mentioned he was loopy right?! So I had one leg on the bed, one leg on the floor and he immediately fell asleep and was snoring in my ear. I was afraid to move, yet I was also afraid there was going to be a big plonk of me hitting the floor!
He would start talking and by the end of the sentence be sleeping. Hello happy morphine. (that is what they give them prior to surgery)
So, how see how he is and he'll see what he thinks and we'll take it from there.
He has a flight planned to somewhere this coming week I'm sure of it, Ottawa I think. So, he isn't exactly planning for a lot of down time. I'll buy extra ibprophen I guess.
I know, my BIL, I don't know what the future holds for him. Nothing that I can imagine with either having surgery or not having surgery has a very good potential for success, although I do hope so, but knowing the things we know now, it's just very hard to know what happens next.
He's had multiple surgeries with no reaction to the anesthesia, so this is new and a game changer as the surgeons said.
hugs!
Re: Molly, 11 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
So good to hear that Daniel's second surgery went as well as the first! It sure sounds like his hospital is top of the line. Hope he hasn't gotten too used to the massages! I was given morphine after my appendix burst -- they had me take tablets for a week after I got home -- interesting stuff.
Sure hope that the doctors can figure out a way to treat your BIL's back problems -- since they know now about his allergic reaction, there should be a way that they can pre-treat him.
Please take care of yourself -- I know after a particularly stressful period that my whole body aches due to tensing up without even realizing it.
Re: Molly, 11 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
All in all a really good report!:p Daniel sounds like he's in really good hands and has some new loopy friends to commiserate with.;) I hope he able to take it easy once he comes home. That flight that he plans on taking might have to be mysteriously canceled.;)
I am glad to hear that your brother-in-law is stable. I hope they are able to do something to help his back situation. I definitely can see why the doctors want to be very careful. No more close calls!:o
Well Sharlene, cuddle up with the muffin tonight and try to get some rest yourself. xxxxoooo
Re: Molly, 11 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Daniel's story sounds just like something my father would pull. Making friends in the hospital and causing trouble :) How sweet that he wanted you to squeeze in on the bed. That's adorable!
Frightening situation with your BIL! Allergies can be serious. Dad and I both have a long list. Mostly to medications. I get very sick from anesthesia and they give me something orally and by IV to combat that. They will figure something out with your BIL.
On the plus side, I am glad that the heart issue wasn't something to require surgery!
Until Bella, I had never seen a reverse sneeze. They are SCARY to watch especially with the noises that they make. Molly knows that you need her to be stable right now. They know us more than we know ourselves.
Hopefully you'll get plenty of sleep tonight.
Hugs

Glad things have improved a bit for your BIL. Still doesn't sound like the best place to be but he is off the machine and that is a big step.
I love being with folks in recovery after minor surgeries or procedures and listening to them talk coming out of anesthesia. It's nearly always hilarious! :D

good news all around! HUGS!
Re: Molly, 11 yr, shih tzu - lhasa aspo, cushing diagnosis
Poor hubby is not happy he has to stay till Monday. He was hoping to get out tomorrow. All his buddies that only had surgery on one side left today. So he's a bit down right now. Will go visit him this afternoon. Told him he just has to concentrate on getting better and this will all be over with.
They determined that BIL didn't have a heart attack from the anesthesia it was a straight reaction that made his heart stop twice and took hours for his heart muscle to start working again. That is why they said no surgery. They think it will happen again. His heart is only 50 -57% of a normal persons anyway so it's tricky without this additional complication.
Hopefully they will come up with a plan forward we just have to wait and it could be awhile for them to figure out what can be done. They plan to move him from ICU today so that is good. Not sure what happens after that. No one there knows either.
Hugs

Molly is doing okay. No more reverse sneezing. She has had that happen to her off and on for years now but it's been quite a long time since the last time.
I picked up low protein dry food and moderate protein wet food for her today and her liver support supplements. Sam-e and milk thistle.
We will see how she does on this. I only got a very small bag of the low protein dry to see if she will even eat it. I have dry green tripe to mix with it if need be. That is higher protein but low phosphorus.
