Nope, nothing dull around here. :) Snow and wind this evening. Molly is Not impressed. Every time she'd try to go potty the wind would give a good go at blowing her over. I'm sure she was exhausted by the time we got back inside the house. She does love the part where I rub her down with a towel though. Especially when I rub her head dry. She just grooves. LOL
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
you will probably see those 5 below wind chills later this week that we are to have.:(:( my two hate getting dried off, Koko runs the other way though Zoe loves to pull the towel from my head and then roll on it. But she cant really roll these days:eek::eek:
stay warm
Hi Sharlene and Molly! Hope all doin good with you guys and poor Miss Molly getting blown over doing a poopy :eek: Keep safe guys... think I need to get to bed just about falling asleep, all that fresh air has made me tired. Have a good rest of the week xx
No news is good news I hope! Are the spring bulbs starting to poke their heads through??? Any sign of spring... at all?? I sure hope so, all these poor pups needs some solid ground to walk on, hate to hear of them slipping about! Hope you and the family and pups are having a lovely weekend Sharlene :D
Trish xxxx
pfffttt spring bulbs! You're just about a week or so ahead of the weather pattern. :D
Actually it started to warm up this week, so we might see something spring like starting to happen. I'm still watching the snow line as it melts away.
Molly is doing okay. She's taken to being finicky about her food though at times. Sometimes she'll eat her whole breakfast and others she'll leave most of the dry. I notice she doesn't drink as much water when she does that, and she really needs the water level to be kept up due to the crystals. So last night, I washed some hamburger and put a bit in her bowl so she finished her food for the day. So yaaay all is well :)
Now I'm just trying to catch up on all the posts. You were a busy girl last night. :p
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
Hi Sharlene, so happy to read that Molly is well and that your weather is improving. We got more snow yesterday and last night, but today it is just cold, gloomy and windy. Hopefully that will be it for the snow!
It sounds like the little Miss is doing really well other than the finicky eating. Good that she will eat if you put a little hamburger in. It seems that when that works for Jasper, he is just being finicky rather than something being really wrong. Too funny that she likes to be dried off with a towel. Both of mine don't like it much, and they especially don't like their feet being wiped, which happens almost every time they come in! There are a few patches of dirt/mud with no grass in the yard, and Shelby seems to find them every time she goes out. I can hardly wait for the spring rains.
Hope you all are having a good weekend.
Hugs,
Tina and Jasper
Hello everyone! We're still doing pretty good here. Nothing exciting going on which is probably good. Molly needs a haircut does that count? Well, I need one too, so maybe her and I should both go in. :) :)
Our weather is better than it has been and we're suppose to have a good weekend, then rain on sunday, all day on sunday, and back to cold with snow flurries on monday. *sigh* Take what you can get I guess.
I hope everyone who has a nice long weekend gets to enjoy it. Do something fun, hide chocolate easter egg! :) oh, and a doggie easter egg for our babies. Even if you don't do the Easter celebration thing, do something fun!!! We all need a good weekend :)
hugs everyone,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
Allo allo... when I checked my weather app this morning, you were all nearly higher than me... so it is turning for sure!! I am not real happy about that, even our temps in the middle of the night have been warmer than yours in middle of day :D:D:D Not for much longer though:) I will be pleased all the pups will soon have solid dry ground though!
Glad to hear Molly is doing good!! We have a 4 day weekend here for Easter, first day has been lovely and hope it keeps up!!
xx
Sending hugs to you and Molly, hope her tummy gets better, seems like we are all on poo patrol...have a blessed Easter!
So a Molly update :) She went and finally got her hair cut today. Yep, a pamper day at the groomers. (now I need to get one done, the groomer said she wasn't touching my hair no matter how much I begged, but she'd give me a treat for being a good girl, ROFL) So, I'll have to make my own appointment it looks like. :p
The last time Molly got hair trimmed was when she boarded at the vets and they did a not so great job. It was good to be back at our regular groomers. I take her to the house to get done instead of the doggie day care center where the groomer is most days. Molly is just too anti-social to go in and play with the other dogs once she is finished. She tries to lord it over all of them and that just doesn't work. This is much better. Plus my groomer has been doing her at the house since we first got Molly, she's excellent with her and Molly will let her do things to her that she won't even let me do.
However, what Molly does not like is the nail trimming. Nope, not a bit, she shows her teeth, bites at you (but has never actually Bitten anyone), she cries, whimpers and this is if she Thinks you are going to touch her feet. You should see the actual antics once the paw is in the hand. I use my head to block her seeing anything, so we are head to head. She survives it at that point, but barely I'm sure. I might point out, that Molly's nails have Never been clipped too short and she has never had a bleed from a too short nail clip. Beats me where she gets these ideas that we are trying to kill her by cutting her nails.
Right now she had a full day of running around the house like a little puppy (i'm sure it's that two inches of fur she lost, made her feel happy and carefree). :)
I still have to figure out when to take her in for her next tests, and I need to get her teeth done. For some reason that scares me.
Shes not eating her food very well and I think she is tired of it. (I would be too, if I ate it every single day for years) I add in a bit chicken breast sometimes to give her more protein as the SO food doesn't have enough, but I don't want anything fatty, we don't need a pancreatic episode. She'll do just about anything for chicken, it's her favorite food in the whole world I think. :o
Anyway, we're good here. I just had to share the grooming story today as it was pretty hilarious to see. A short little fluff muffin ruling the roost and sent the big ole Irish Setter puppy to his bed. :p:p
LOL sooooooooooooo cute!!!!!!! showing her little teeth. LOL!!!!! little snarl. LOL cracks me up.
teeth cleaning........reason to be nervous. First off it introduces bacteria through out the body and sprays the body as they work with bacteria. immune system needs to be top shape as it can be. 2nd some doctors have techs do cleanings. and most regular vets do not have anesthesiologist. So ask if you can hire in anesthesiologist and ask or does cleaning...doctor or techs. You might see if there is specialist for that in your area. I know Houston has dental at Gulf Coast and that is where we will go IF we ever get everything else settled down.
Loved the story, that is precious.
Love hearing about Molly's day of beauty! I like how she gives the teeth at nail clipping time-- she's showing her spunk, not to mention her displeasure at the manicure!
I agree about the teeth cleaning...really scares me too..anesthesia and all. I was just starting to think about getting it done when all this with the liver and then Cushing's came up. So now that is on the back burner....way back until we're under control.
Anyway, sounds like Molly's ready for the weekend with her springtime clipping. Hope you both have a nice one!!
Barbara
Daisy doesn't like her nails being done either :) Maybe it's a small dog thing?
Just wanted to put my 2 cents in on Molly. Previous to Cuhings Tipper ahd her teeth cleaned every year. Also I have a grooming table and would trime her hair. I have noticed a great deal of impatience on her part since becoming ill with the cushings. She will not stand for standing still to be trimmed, gets growly at me, and sometimes nipping when you try to trim her. She is very impatient about waiting for anything like getting her harness on etc. She was never like this before. I have always brushed her teeth every day since she was a puppy. She is very used to it and does like it because of the taste of the toothpaste. It is enzymatic so it is not even the brushing you do as much as the application of it to the teeth. I have decided with this disease going on it is not worth it to put her under, and worry about her waking up , just to clean teeth. I do know the importance of good dental health in relationship to their organs etc, but still am not doing it. I am worried also about the spreading of germs etc. I figure if I clean her teeth well every day that is a better solution. I do have the Vet check them periodically to make sure they are all ok. With all the liver problems etc. stemming from this disease, introducing anesthesia is not an option for me. Molly is certainly lucky that her mommy gave her a beauty day at the doggy salon. It is funny the antics they do when being groomed by someone else, you would swear they were in danger of being killed from some of the reactions you see. God Bless You and Molly
Patti
Ha.. Molly is so silly! I love reading your stories. Your baby is one spunky girl. ;)
oh that molly is something else :).and how is her mama today ?so happy to read happy stories here :).my meka does not like the nails done either.the lady i take her to lets me hold her and i also am head to head with her keeping her looking the opposite way, after 6 years you think she would get the hang of this....anyway i am hoping we all have a great day with our litl ones !!! patty(milo)meka xoxox
It must be a thing with these little ones that that do not want their feet touched, and certainly the nails are off limits!!
Okay, under things that make you laugh and everyone here who knows our Molly, Knows that she is a goof ball. So, today when I got home from work, off we go for our early evening walk. It seems that some rather tall dog had the nerve to pee on one of HER trees. Oh the nerve! So, being a dog, (which yea, we remind her she is) she needed to immediately reclaim her territory. Now, how is a little dog that is what 8 inches or so tall going to do that up the side of a tree? Well, it took a couple tries till she got it perfect (or what she considered to be perfect anyway) of backing up the tree and sort of doing a hop and walking her back legs up the tree to yes, a good combative pee height (I'm sure it was Eddie, the Newfie two houses down) and then peeing all the way down the side of the tree. (she might have just lost her balance but she made it Look like it was her idea at least)!
She is going to pay for that later I bet with her joints not feeling so great, but it was certainly no deterrent when it came to letting it be known that this was Her tree and no tall dog peeing up high was going to intimidate her!!
I almost fell over I was laughing so hard. Molly is very particular about her trees. She uses them as pee posts and for a good hiding spot to peek out and spy on anything on the other side of the street. :)
That is my super good thing of the day. That and no snow, sorry, Lettie and Julie. I'm so happy we aren't getting any right now! LOL
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin P.S. I just saw Eddie the Newfie pee on that tree! The battle is on!!!!!!
Sharlene: That is so funny, I am laughing until I cry. I can just see this little dog backing up the tree to pee on it. She is a character. Lots of fun. Take care. Love, JoAnne
Your Molly is so funny, oh how I love to hear the good stories too, we all need those belly laughs, good for the soul....Simba is not enjoying the snow one bit, he runs out there then puts his paw up like oh its so cold, needless to say his little under thing is deep in the snow, but he doesnt seem to mind that :) so there he pees, one paw up, oh sim!!
Sharlene,That is hilarious! I can just picture it! What a little stinker! Thanks for sharing such a funny story!
Julie & Hannah
Yeah dawg, keep off MY tree! You tell em MM!! :D :D xx
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Oh Gawd, I can picture that so clearly! I just woke the boys up laughing!
What a precious! Please give her a big kiss for me, that is just priceless! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Oh my word! :p I can just see that! :p:D:p What a hoot! You tell 'em, Molly Girl! That is YOUR tree! LOLOLOL :p:D:p:D
So, I don't know if your dogs are like this or not, but molly is ticklish under her front leg pits (?). If you get her on her back and start tickling her, she"ll start growling when you tickle her under her legs. So the other night I had her down on the floor and we were playing tickle and I'd say this one is for Naomi, and this one is from Leslie and so on and so on, going through everyone here. She was a mess of squirming, growling, smiling, loving dog. I think she quite enjoyed herself.
Now, 2 nights ago, molly had an accident upstairs, first one in a very long time and it was Strong smelling. Not her normal pee smell, and she'd just had a walk a couple hours before going to bed. Well, you know the Bissell is your friend, and we cleaned up. The next morning though I decided to take a sample into the vet to check for a UTI. In house showed nothing and I know they were going to check on slides too, but then they called and said that the vet wanted to send out for a culture, which I had actually already asked to be done, because you never know. $225! Good golly Miss Molly. That thing better grow diamonds at this rate.
Course I probably could have just waited a couple days to see if anything else seemed off or not, because that's right, not a thing since, no accidents, no more frequent urination breaks needed, food is fine, water in take is good and tonight she (this is an awful habit of hers that I've tried to get her to stop but she won't) she acted like she just had to smell this tree, and is smelling the ground all around it and then when this guy walks by (that I know she noticed before needing to go smell that tree) she lept from behind the tree at the guy. I had her on a short leash so she couldn't actually get anywhere near to him and he walked on by. Then she completely decides she could care less about the tree and takes of with a prance in her walk straight up to our driveway and up the front door. THE BRAT!!!
I'm thinking they are not gong to find a UTI at all and I'm going to have to learn to not head to the vet with urine at the first impulse. I'll be really happy if she doesn't have a UTI as she doesn't need that, but then I wonder why the smell that night. She was in a snit that night and was tail sucking something awful and when I'd try to get her to stop she would run off and hide in another room, so it might have been attitude peeing, but the smell was still strong. I haven't noticed it since of course, but even hubby confirmed it smelled strong.
*sigh*
The Molly saga continues. :) I know I shouldn't panic but I always remember, that the ultrasound showed an enlarge liver, lymph nodes and adrenal glands, so we know there is something wrong, but we don't know what and even though she does all these antics and acts fine most of the time, she does have off days. It's just she always bounces back rather quickly and then it's easy to be in that state of denial that anything is wrong at all. Makes me think that I'm nuts sometimes. The technical things that I know now, from being on here, just don't make sense when it comes to molly it seems. :(
She does always make me laugh though with her antics so that is good that she still likes to get in trouble or cause trouble I should say.
Hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
Sharlene
I can never thank you enough for all your kindness the past few weeks.I'm only just beginning to read thru your threads.I was in such a state of shock when I lost Fella that I could barely think of anything else.I laughed at your sweet Molly and the tree! That is def something Fella would do!:).I look forward to hearing more about her as she sounds adorable!!Thanks again and big hugs to you and Molly!!
Love,
Patty
Sharlene,
Molly sounds like quite the character jumping out from behind the tree at that guy! :D. We should team her up with Buddy and that would really be a gruesome twosome! Hehehe!:D
We all worry about our babies. We all panic when they don't seem quite right. You've always been there when I've popped in panicking because Buddy wasn't acting quite right. We are here for you and Molly too.:) I've rushed to the vet several times to find out that Buddy was absolutely fine and I overreacted once again. Isn't it better to have that reassurance? So, you took a urine sample in. If it shows to be something, then you got a head start on it. If it shows to be nothing, at least you were proactive. Sometimes people wait too long for other symptoms to appear. I've seen it time and time again.
Yes, treating this stuff is very expensive, But I don't want to think about the alternative.
Sending much love to you and Molly,
Kathy and Buddy:cool:
Well who gave that guy any permission to go near that tree while Molly was busy giving it the once over!? I mean really mister...couldn't he see that Molly was on a sniff fest and he probably got his smell all mixed in with what she was busy with! Of course she went after him...you know he deserved it!! ;)
I hope the test shows that everything is fine. Sorry for the cost but maybe being reassured that she doesn't have any issues with her urine will be worth it...the vet bills are mind boggling aren't they?
When we went for the ultrasound and the 8hour test they made me sign a paper beforehand stating how much it was likely going to come to...and it was a lot! When it ended up being about $150 less than the estimate I about jumped for joy. It was still plenty of money but I felt like we got a break for once!
What can you do? I keep wishing we had a vet in the family! That would help wouldn't it??
Hope you and Molly are having a nice evening! :)
Barbara
You need to make a sign for that tree that reads, "Molly's Tree, all others will be run off!" :D
I so enjoy hearing about Molly's antic. She is a special girl and gives you lots of laughs and also all on this forum. CoCo is so possessive too, no one can get close to his fence without his running like a nut, sometimes on 3 legs, letting them know that is his property. Hope she does not have a UTI. Keep the laughs coming. Love, JoAnne
Lori, she didn't have anything different to eat that day. The last thing she had was her glucosomine treat, which I suppose could have caused the strong odor. (maybe)
Yes, Molly does like that tree and claims it as her own. It's the same one that she tries to get as high as she can to over ride, Eddie (the Newfoundland) from peeing on. She loves to hide behind trees and peak out to watch dogs and other people on the other side go by. I guess she thinks they can't see her or something. She certainly has her moments.
I don't regret getting her urine cultured, just wish it didn't cost so bloody much to do it. I always ask for a culture since she's had a couple UTI's before and if it is positive I want the right antibiotic for the bacteria and not a guess shot at which one to use. I've always said since this whole thing started, that I work for molly now. LOL As long as she needs tests done she'll get them.
I read about a bunch of you with dogs that don't sleep through the night and I'm really grateful that molly still likes her later mornings. If it's dark or rainy out, you can be assured that she'll be the last one out of bed and have to give it a good consideration as to whether she needs to go pee bad enough to go outside. Sometimes if it even looks rainy she doesn't want to go and I'll have to open the door and Prove to her that the rain stopped. She cock her head and listen and sort of stick her neck around both ways to make sure that her dainty self is not going to get soaked. She hates her raincoat btw and takes off a good run if she sees it coming out of the closet. Lord that dog, it keeps her dry, it doesn't interfere with any leg hiking or squatting, but nooooo, not for cup of tea at all. Oh did I mention that if we are outside by the pool in the summer, that she doesn't want to drink out of a dog bowl but the same blue plastic cups that I will have a drink in. So I have to fill hers up with water for her. (filtered from the fridge thank you very much) Boy did I get off track with this post. Sorry! LOL
Still waiting to hear back from the vet.
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
Lori, Molly sounds like she has an awesome personality...I can imagine just watching her and giggling. Each pup is so different and has their own distinct personality that makes us love them even more. Wishing her and you the very best.
Love and Hugs, Sharon
Norman and Millie send licks :p and tail wags ;)
Sharlene,
I think Molly really wants a pina colada in that blue cup when she's out by the pool! :D
I hope the test results come back normal.
Barbara
Yes, the vet bills are crazy! I spent two grand the first three days that Buddy was so ill! I hate waiting for test results too! Waiting seems to be the hardest part, because it keeps you in a holding pattern. Hoping only the best for Molly.
Yes, Buddy and Molly would definitely be quite a pair! The queen bee and the mighty lizard Hunter! :D hehehe
You obviously have been at my house with Buddy during a rainstorm! He is exactly like Molly! He won't step a foot outside if he even thinks it might still be raining. In an emergency when I have to practically shove him out the door, he will hug the wall under the overhang to make sure not one drip of water gets on him. He will then take care of his business lickety-split and shoot back through the door like his tail was on fire.:D
Hugs,
Kathy and Buddy:cool:
Shysie is a bit of a redneck hillbillie type gal i suppose. rain, mudd, snow when we lived in a state that had that, she would plunge right on through. She would look like a little mudd drop with eyes. Rain....she just races right on out running and splashing, and makes me who doesnt want to get out in it, chase her. She likes to find deceased insects like a fly, earth worm, etc and roll on them, sending me into a screaming nooooooooooooo dont do that sweeeeeeeeetheart, lol. she is one tough little girl i give her credit. she is the love of my life. :) now back to the pool and the blue cups............lol
Another here who loves the Molly stories, so feisty some of these wee doggies! :D I was wondering if the strong smell may have been to do with her fluid intake, if she had not had much that day it would be more concentrated and a bit more whiffy than usual! Post the results won't you so we can all have a gander! It takes a couple of days for the plates to grow any bugs, so pleased you have waited for that result before leaping into antibiotics.
I see that often with people who get put on an antibiotic just in case, there is no surprise we are ending up with so much resistance in the community. Unless humans are systemically unwell (eg fever, sick feeling) they should not have antibiotics (few exceptions there eg pregnancy) but generally should hold off until there is a positive culture with sensitivities so you can treat with appropriate antibiotics. Flynn so far has not had UTI trouble (touch wood) so I am not real up on this in doggies, but would imagine it would be similar. So my advice would be at this stage is to make sure she is drinking adequately to flush any bug out!! xx
hmmm, now that is an interesting point about the water. Molly drinking enough water has been a battle for years. She needs to, since she is prone to the crystals and it is why I have kept her on the SO food, even though I don't like it and it isn't nutritionally as good. (have to supplement in some protein) Without it she won't drink enough water to even get up to the recommended amount. So that could have something to do with it.
I agree completely Trish. I'm not a fan of giving antibiotics until needed and the right one for the right job for dogs and humans. I just figure as we get older, chances are we might need or they might need something as they become prone to more things and so should be careful when we aren't sure. However, if needed, they are wonderful tools to get rid of some of those nasty bacterial bugs.
Hehehe, Oh I'm sure she would love to get into a pina coloda in the summer. We have these acrylic wine and beer glasses for around the pool area in the summer and she definitely makes a beeline for them. No she doesn't Get any, she just tries. I think that she thinks anything in a glass must be most wonderful and of course she should have it. Rather like people food, she thinks that is surely better than anything in her bowl and will ignore her own food and wait (not very patiently either) to see if you are making these wonderful smells Just for her. (see picture in album of Xmas cooking, when she tried to convince daughter and her boyfriend to give her something) Cute is Very effective it seems.
That is funny Kathy. Buddy and Molly seem to be on the same wave length.
Aww, shysie is totally adorable, she's our fearless one. As is Flynn, who would be right there with her.
I'm convinced that Trixie is our marathon runner. That girl does a few miles and take a nap. Molly I'd have to carry home.
I love all the personalities of the furbabies on here. Each is so unique and completely adorable. How could anyone not just fall in love with them. :)
hugs gang!
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
So the vet didn't call today and I didn't get a chance to call her due to work. However, I'm pretty sure that the dog that just ran flat out as fast she could around the house for numerous times, with a stuffed toy in her mouth like a screaming banshee, does Not have a UTI or other type of infection. No way she'd feel that good. So that is a good thing and it was fun to see her playing so crazily. She is now in a gurmpy park mood, where she lays there exhausted from her romp and sort of does this Humrph humrph sound. (It's her complaining about something mode)
hugs,
Sharlene and Molly Muffin
