TaterTot

I wanted to let everyone know that little Tater Tot passed on last night at 9:30pm. I fell asleep on the couch, holding her in my arms. Nick by our side, and Animal Planet playing a show about new born kittens quietly. Nick woke me to let me know he thought it was time. The little baby gave three little coughs, opened her beautiful big eyes, and passed peacefully in the arms of the person who loves her more than anything in the world.
We spent yesterday doing some of the things Tater loved. We sat on the couch on the balcony, basking in the warm sunlight, we listened to quiet, comforting music, we went out back to Courtney's garden and sat taking in the smells of the greenery and the outdoors. The quiet chirping of the crickets. She got a short, careful bath, and I painted her front toes with fresh pink paint. I wrapped her in "soft bedding" just as she wanted and we stayed together all day long. I know, this is the way Tater Tot wanted to pass, and I know all she needed was to know I'l be ok.
Tater is a strong, old soul who will live on forever. She is being cremated, setting her soul free of the adorable little body that came to plague her in her final days. She has with her her favorite blanket, her piggy, her octopus, collar, and the very first outfit we ever put her in. She passed looking as adorable, and beautiful as ever. We will keep her Service Dog vest as well, and her two favorite shirts as well as her very first bed and food dish.
We plan to keep a few choice items, and donate her other things to rescue groups. She has an abundance of clothing I'm sure a small dog rescue would love to have to make their hopefuls look even more adorable. She has a couple blankies, a couple beds, and many toys she never took much interest in. Though Tater has been officially, honorably discharged from the would of the tiny service animals, she will help those in need even in death.
I want to thank everyone for their love and support through this time. Tater Tot was, and still is the little sunshine of my life. She saved me, and I rescued her. We kept each other for almost six years through sickness and sadness, and most importantly happiness. She taught me about responsibility, about loving unconditionally, friendship, loyalty... She taught me not to project my feelings on others, and she showed me that I am stronger than I ever thought. But most importantly, Tater Tot taught me everything I could need to need about loving oneself. She was a friend, a wise teacher, and a true blessing.
Thank you, everyone. From the bottom of my heart, Nick's hear, and Tater's heart. I firmly believe Tater Tot has crossed the Rainbow Bridge to meet her friends and her old family. She is no longer blind, and her body no longer confines her. She can run, and jump. Do the Doggie Bounce and the Gummy Bear dance. She's found her friends who have passed, and is socializing in the beautiful green grass as she always wanted to in life. Soon, Tater Tot will become a little angel, and she will continue to look over me and others from the other side.
I cannot help but be angry, and discontent due to the circumstances, and some of the extremely poor conditions she faced at VCA - West Los Angeles, but we are all trying to be at peace knowing my little girl went quietly in the arms of the person who loved her most.
"You built the prison walls. What can you do for me? Break free! Tumble the structure and let your hearts dance!" - Tater Tot (through a pet communicator just before her death)
