Hi Ya'll,

It's been a loooong time coming, but the babies and I are finally moving out of this camper and into a house. :) The mover is moving the furniture in today which means I will be losing internet connection today so when I sign out today, I won't be back for a while. As soon as new internet service is set up, I will return! :p

Until then, know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers, never forgotten, always loved.

Hugs,
Leslie

PS. Just in case anyone is wondering....

I am ecstatic!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

GOOD MORNING, K9C! :D

We are moved into our new home and loving it! I say “moved in” – the furniture and boxes are here…for the most part, I think. But now that I have internet access again, they will just have to wait. I have been going through withdrawals so I gotta surf today! :p

The babies are all doing well. I had some grave concerns about how the move might affect Brick as he is easily stressed by change and it is hard on him. So I invested in more rugs and about 10 different oils to scent them with to help him find his way around. HA! Before I could locate the oils and rugs he was managing just dandy! He did bump into things often at first but he learned very quickly that he had to go slower than he used to in the camper and moved around cautiously. Boxes are moved around from place to place daily but the furniture hasn’t moved tho it isn’t where it will eventually be placed. My itty bitty man has truly amazed me once again by how quickly he learns and adapts but I may yet end up making him a little pillow hat to wear.

Trinket is the neighborhood darling, of course. Her penchant for exploring has new impetus now and as folks in the park have seen us out and about, several have come outside ooing and aahing, fingers wiggling as they reach to pick her up. She just melts against their chests and they become her captives, too. (The kids all prefer Brick, tho. They are enchanted by him. :)) Sun. morning the babies were all outside while I was working in the yard when I noticed Trink on her back wallering up a storm. She was twisting so hard her butt would come up by her head; her legs were kicking, tail swishing furiously, all the while making her little trilling sound. :D She was obviously enjoying herself immensely and I took a moment to just enjoy watching her then went back to work. After a bit, I decided they needed to go back in while I drug some limbs off to the park burn pile, so I started gathering babies. Because Brick will plunge off of anything, he has to be the first one out the door and the last one to go in in order to lower the risk he will fall out the door. I picked everyone else up and put them inside but when I got Trink in my arms this godawful odor wafted up. After looking at the ground around us, my shoes, and anything else I could see it became obvious the source was Trinket. Sure enough, she was covered in something that was almost the same color as her brown spots. I don’t think it had been deposited by a dog – or if it had, that pup needs a doc asap. I have never smelled any poop quite so bad as that was. Needless to say, she got a good bath, then the tub got scoured again, I got scoured and the house stunk for the rest of the day in spite of candles and Oust! I went back to the spot where I had seen her indulging to clean the rest of it up but didn’t find anything so she did a really good job of getting it all off the ground and onto her.

Squirt is tickled to pieces to have space again. She can get away from the rest of them and get some peace and quiet for a change. She has also been getting pleasure out of smelling things as I unpack them; there is no doubt she recognizes certain things from earlier in her life with pleasant memories/connections. :) I do think she misses the outside freedom she had at my brother’s, tho. We had been there long enough that she knew her boundaries; she had three acres to roam before I hollered, “Far enough!” and she was allowed to stay outside by herself some there. Here, I can’t allow that for fear she would get out on the main road or hit on our street or take off into the woods and get lost. Plus she would be in other folks’ yards and some might not appreciate that so we have to be neighborly. The fence and porches should be up soon and she will be able to have a cool place to get under and dig a few holes, something she really enjoys. Most of all, it means a great deal to me that she has a house again now. Queens need their space, you know. :D

Brick gave me a bit of a scare that resulted in a vet visit and I’ll tell you about that on his thread but when we left the Dr. B’s, we came home with another baby – a geriatric female Boston Terrier named Tasha. Tasha’s mom died and the kids wouldn’t take her so they dumped her on Dr B. Another of his clients had taken Tasha but brought her back saying she couldn’t get along with her other dog –which I think is bull. She gets along just fine with all of mine. Tasha is very sweet and really doesn’t interact with the others much at all. By the time Tasha was returned to Dr B, he no longer had room to keep her and was going to have to put her down but when I called about Brick…well, they knew. ;) I had already told them I would take her, if no one else had by the time we moved, and try to find a home for her. Tasha is 12, has allergies, an eye injury that isn’t healing well, and one of her nipples bleeds. I don’t think the bleeding had started while she was at the clinic or they would have told me about it. The only thing she has been treated for is allergies according to her medical records. But she hasn’t been spayed and looks as if she has had several litters. She also has “selective Pica”; while I was talking with a neighbor, she gobbled up six or seven cigarette butts that had been dumped in the gutter then threw them up, and she will eat toilet paper and Kleenex but apparently paper towels are not on the menu. I’m going to wait until next week then take her in for him to check; by then I should know if there are any other issues. I don’t plan to take any drastic measures with her but I will do what I can to keep her comfortable and happy as long as possible while I search for someone else who could love her; and, of course, she will always have a home with us. Tasha and Brick follow me every step I take; Squirt and Trink lay in the living room floor and watch us pass by. After a few trips back and forth, they no longer even raise their heads, just eyes and ears track our progress. :p

So we are in a wonderful new house on a lot I am quite content to be on with nice neighbors around us. AND I’m back online! :D Life is good! :):):) Of course, there are several “moving in stories” to share and I’m sure more to come in the days ahead.

Now to go see how ya’ll have been doing. I doubt I can catch up with everyone today but I am back and so glad to see you all!

Hugs,
Leslie and the gang

Thanks, Sas!

Well, the neighbors just got indoctrinated....I was unloading some boxes that were stored in my brother's barn when out came a huge (1/2" :o) spider. I don't do spiders. When I went to swat him off the box, he jumped and a gust of wind caught him, sending him up under my dress. Soooooo, off came the dress and there I was in my white, holey, baggy granny panties and sandals stomping on my dress which by that time was on the ground. When I heard that familiar slapping sound, I realized what I was doing and dashed back inside - but the dress is still out there.

The adventures continue!

About midnight last nite, there was a strange, scary sound coming from my bedroom window. I jumped up and snatched the curtains back prepared to catch the culprit red-handed...while I was empty-handed and in my gown! Nothing there...so outside I go, still in the gown and found no one. Back to bed I go with a steak knife under my pillow now - NOT that I thought about it while roaming around outside in the dark.

I was just drifting off to sleep when another strange noise came from the kitchen. I could see Tash asleep and still on the couch in the LR and the other babies were also sound asleep (GREAT watch dogs in this house! :D). I get up and spend the next hour scouring the house for something, someone, anything, anyone that could be making those noises, with 911 pressed in on the cell, my finger ready to hit "send", and the knife in the other hand. Nothing. Back to bed with the steak knife.

After drifting in and out the few remaining hours of the nite, I got out of bed and started the day...which includes a morning poop shoveling. As I started to pass my bedroom window, I noticed a strange coloring on the ground. Closer inspection revealed the remains of small Lunar Moth, wing span about 5". This is the first I've seen of Lunar Moths in ages and was sad to see it dead but relieved as I now believe this was the source of those strange noises last nite. The steak knife can go back into the block where it belongs.

The adventure continues! :p

Oh Leslie, I'm glad it was nothing sinister!! And yes, aren't those moths incredibly beautiful? Each summer for the past couple of years, I had been so lucky as to find one alive and just emerging from the cocoon in my backyard. Just incredible timing and dumb luck. Each time, the moth was letting it's beautiful wings dry before flying off. I would sit quietly nearby, hoping to keep the birds away. Last week, I stepped outside one morning to see a single beautiful wing lying on the ground :(. I so hope the moth already had the chance to procreate before maybe ending up as a meal. They are such magical creatures, aren't they -- that soft luminous green...!
