"Dogs Never Lie About Love" -1998
1. THE CAPACITY FOR UNSELFISH LOVE.
IN the capacity for friendship, dogs are our superiors. NO question of it. We do not make friends as quickly, as reliably or as safely as dogs do. Dogs have this wonderful capacity to lie down next to you on a nice warm day and give a sigh that this is just exactly where I want to be. We don't have to go anywhere, we don't have to do anything, you don't have to give me anything.
2. THE ABILITY TO BE IN THE MOMENT.
There's the old cliche that dogs live in the moment; well, they do. For them what matters is not what they're going to do next week, but what they're doing right now. Living in the moment-I think if we could do this, that would be a very good thing.
3. THE TALENT FOR PEACE.
Dogs seem to have learned how to live in a world without conflict, or at least that's the kind of world they want to live in. The lesson of the Michael Vick dogs is that they don't want to fight. NO dog wants to fight. We have to force them to fight. Your normal dog wants to love. He wants to be around friendly beings, whether they be other dogs or humans or even cats. They want to live in a harmonious world, and they have to a certain extent achieved this.
