Isn't this already being done in other countries? Why don't they just bring a surgeon here and start training?

Christy, they are. This is the surgery that Gina's Lucygoo had about 18 months ago, give or take. Dr. Bruyette in LA is the IMS who is helping lead the research & is one of the Goo girl's attending vets.

Yes, I believe Lucy's surgery was performed at UCLA Medical Center with "human" neurosurgeons participating in the procedure. Although still experimental, we've heard that a few more surgeries have also been completed there.

And here's another link to the portion of Newfie Dax's thread in which his mom discusses cutting-edge radiation treatment that is being offered at Washington State University for reduction of pituitary macroadenomas. Instead of subjecting the dog to the traditional protocol of a dozen radiation treatments over a month's time, the WSU vet school is using a radiosurgery tool to complete treatment in a single session. All very exciting stuff!
