Ok, folks, here it is! Something we have talked about for ages but now it is gonna happen! John, his wife, Pattee, Glynda, and I are all planning to meet here in Show Low, AZ again next year...and we would like everyone who can to plan to come as well! There are several nice motels/hotels here as well as some beautiful RV parks. I have been staying at the KC Motel and it is quite nice. Dog friendly, clean, reasonable, and the owners are very nice.
Bring your babies, yourselves and plan to stay a few days so we can visit and explore a bit! Someone I know is already planning a trip to the Grand Canyon next year which is only a few hundred miles from here! ;) So save your pennies, tell your bosses you will be gone for a bit next year, and pack your bags! We will work out the exact timing but during the summer would probably work out best. It is pleasant up here in the mountains!
Are ya excited yet??!?!?
Hugs,
Leslie, Glynda, John and Pattee

Wouldn't that be great? Unfortunately I could not get away till September as summer is my busiest time but you never know so keep me posted. Don has been bugging me to take him to Arizona as I have been there, loved it and told him we are retiring there.
It would be so wonderful to meet the people in person that I have come to know and love . . . . :):):p

In the summer would mean I would have to leave the triple digit temperatures of the California desert:eek: Oh, golly, just might be able to talk myself into going to the cool mountains:D

This someone will be visiting the Grand Canyon later this month.:D
No spare time this visit for a side trip but if the $ is still good for us and airfares cheap I might nearly be able to swing it.
Had to google Show Low (didn't know where it was) and it looks like Phoenix is the biggest airport and only about 175 miles.:D
Wouldn't it be fun.:D

I'm thrilled to see that our very first k9c reunion has sparked a lot of interest. Summer is my busy time of year too so September would be my month of choice. It's also great weather up in the mountains that time of year.
It is a good three hour drive from Sky Harbor (Phoenix) airport but it's a very pretty drive. There is a small commuter airline (Great Lakes Aviation) that flies into Show Low Municipal Airport from Phoenix. It's a 45 minute flight and I would be happy to be the official Show Low shuttle. I don't think they fly pets but will research that.
As soon as we pick a date, I'll start posting as much information as possible re accomodations, points of interest, air fare from Phoenix to Show Low, etc.

Visiting Best Friends is a dream I hope to make come true one day. I want to volunteer for a week and pick the dogs I want to sleep with every night. Doesn't that sound awesome!

I got to meet Jenny and her family last night and I had so much fun with them....I didn't want to leave. She and Chris are planning on being at our first reunion in September. Yay!!! This is going to be so much fun and I hope ya'll will start looking at your calendars to see if you can make it.
I took my camera but I forgot to check the batteries so I'm hoping the two pics of me and Jen came out but if not, Chris took some more of us on his camera. I'll post mine when I get home from work tonight.

I was thinking about September because that's about the only time I can take any type of vacation longer than two or three days. John, Pattee, Leslie and I had such a good time that we thought it would be great to have a bigger get together in Show Low. The weather is really nice that time of year and there are things to do in the area in case we get sick of each other. :D I'm biased so Leslie and John can give your their take on Show Low as the spot.

Well, I love Show Low and most of the high country cities in the summer time. Climate is great and for those that want to take an extended vacation, it's about 5 hour drive to Las Vegas passing over the Great Hoover Dam maybe about a 3 hour drive to the beautiful Red Rock mountains of Sedona, the energy vortex of the universe and slide rock where there is a natural rock water slide. 3 hours to Phoenix but I don't recommend Phoenix in September although the daytime temps to get down to about 100.;):D and we can't forget the Grand Canyon. For those that like the indian casino's, there is one close by with camping in a very nice campground but don't forget to make reservations ahead of time.
Just hanging around Show Low is great for just relaxing too. Show Low is a mountain town at about 6000 ft elevation with plenty of camping area's, and of course hotels and cabins.
Okay, sound like a tourist guide... but I guess you can tell that I like it up there :o:):D

I love this country and my favorite activity is driving through it, seeing the scenery. Two states I have never had any desire to see, tho, are FLA and AZ - too hot for me! Well, I have been to FLA and am satisfied - I don't have any desire to go back (no offense to our Floridians!). I'm not a beach gal, can't take the heat, and the bugs and 'gators terrify me.:o
However, I was totally blown away by Show Low, Arizona.`That part of the state is nothing like I had expected! It is beautiful! Mountains, trees, lakes, the temps were perfect this Sept.; the town is small enough that "rush hour" is nothing yet large enough to meet all your needs. The landscape is intriguing; you can drive a few hours in any direction and be in a different world. There are areas where you can see that Mother Nature simply drew a line in the dirt and set one environment on Her right side and another altogether different on Her left. Show Low is nestled in what they call the Rim Country of the White Mtns. and it is gorgeous there!
Glynda and I drove on up the mtn. through Lakeside/Pine Top to the Hondo Casino one afternoon. Along this drive we saw quaint little shops with offerings ranging from antiques to native arts, interesting restaurants, cabins and RV camping areas, hiking trails, and, if you're lucky, the possibility of meeting a group Native Americans who will cook you Indian Tacos on frybread then entertain you while you eat. We understand that further north of the casino the country is really beautiful but we didn't have time to go. This is one area I do want to go back to and explore more fully! :D
So even if we all got together, ate one meal and decided we couldn't stand each other after all, it wouldn't be a wasted trip! :p Tho, I truly doubt that would be the case! ;)
Save your pennies!
Hugs,
Leslie

I'm not sure when I got so old (fat and wrinkled) but I guess it will only get worse.
It was so great meeting Glynda and if we can pull off getting together next year it would be fantastic.
Glynda, thank you for taking the time and sneaking off from work to meet up with us, I do appreciate it. I can also say that there were no margaritas in sight, maybe other alcoholic beverages but they don't count.:p
See you soon!

I consider that a compliment because I think Jen is as cute as button with a personality to match. Not sure if Jen feels the same way though. :o

Lulu will also be there but not sure I want to subject anybody to Jojo. The last time I took Jojo to Show Low, I had to stop too many times to give him water and to pee. It was a very, very long day, both coming and going. Maybe I'll bring Buster and Jasper too. People will think we're having a dog show...unless they see Lulu. :D I'll have to make sure I pack my video recorder.

Hmmmm, this sounds promising. Will have to work on Dave. Cooky, tho' is always up for a long ride in the car. This one -- AZ -- would be really long and far, but I luv it there. Too bad we aren't still in CALI....... Really, Jenny, you might be coming???? WOW, I guess I shouldn't complain about AZ being so far from me. :p Sue

Sue, we've all been talking about how great it would be if a bunch of us could actually get together and we're really going to make it happen next September. Everybody start saving your pennies and start working on your spouses early. At some point, I'll be posting more information like pet friendly motels and airports, etc. In the meantime, here's a bit of information in Wikipedia on Show Low, Arizona, a town named for the turn of a card.
