Aha! Another fan :D Watching the match as I type and it's 1 - 1 at the moment :) Holland's first match isn't untill Monday...so for now keeping myself amused watching the other countries play :) But I think that Spain is a good candidate for the world cup... In my opinion anyway ;) But untill we know who will be the winner of the world cup, I hope we have many great matches to watch :D

USA 1, England 1...Very good game. USA did very well against the powerhouse team. :D:D:D:D:D:D
I was truly a tale of two goalies :):):):)
I went to a game in Germany last time, it was very exciting to be there and to feel the excitement. Great fun, Great Brats and Great beer :D

Hi,
England, hardly ther powerhouse team anymore! Rooney was very quiet and as for the goalie, well we won't go there. Seriously, I hope they play better next time just so my husband, Dave, can stop moaning about them! USA did well.
Good Luck to Holland and Australia on Monday.

Ha Jenny, I get to see the Australia - Germany match already on Sundayevening ;) The Dutch have kind of adopted the Aussie team since Pim Verbeek is their coach :D I for one, will be cheering for Australia this evening!
Have fun, Monday morning watching the match :)

Aw Jenny...
We, the Dutch, know exactly how it feels being beaten by the Germans :o Although I must admit they were playing fabulous. Well, still 2 more matches to go, so nothing's lost yet :) I will keep chearing for the Aussies ;)
For now, enjoy your Monday...and off to bed with me :)

We were expecting it to be a tough game and all the reporters "in the Know" said that if Germany came out firing and scored 2 goals in the first 20 minutes don't bother watching because it was all over!
Hubby got up at 4.00am and was going to wake me but 2 quick goals from Germany sent him back to bed and I slept through it all and didn't know how it went until I woke this morning.
Oh well....next time.

My hubby was up at 3 or 4 or some other ungodly hour. But only briefly - he didn't say anything when he came back to bed and apart from a brief moment of being puzzled by voices (TV on) in the middle of the night I slept through it all too.

Great game today Australia vs Serbia.
The Aussies won 2 - 1, last half was intense.

I think the Aussies are still out of the running - and wont' be going onto the next round despite this win. It has something to do with the drubbing we got from Brazil earlier on - the margin by which you win or lose matters. At least that is what my husband is saying.

If the Serb's didn't score, then the Aussie's would have gone to the next round. Unfortunately, the Serbs got a goal :(
But the 2nd half was really exciting :D I love the poor acting in trying to get a penalty call with fake injury. Oh some of the acting is horrible.
What do they call it Flupping?
On a good note for us anyway...The U.S. won today.
BTW a 10 hour Stanely Cup tennis match today... meant Wimbledon.... Duh.

Don't know what it's called - but it seems to be core skill with soccer/football - always has been and it is a long standing butt of jokes and satire. Sometimes they don't even remember to clutch the right body part.:eek::D
At least they aren't throwing set-piece tantrums like tennis players do as they try to psych out their opponent (and maybe the umpire too).
But it's all part of the entertainment, right?

Linda....Thanks! :D
When that final whistle signal sounded, the entire country exploded with fireworks, vuvuzela's and singing people :p It was nerve wrecking but especially the second half was worth watching ;)
It's sooo hot here that in every town and city, they had placed those huge screens and millions and millions of people watched outside, almost Brazilian style :D Poor Brazilians, they were so sure they would win today :(
It's over 104 degrees F today and the"sparrows are dropping dead off of the roof" as we say here...ouf. For 2 weeks now it has been over 95 degrees F with today being an absolute record. It's "paralyzing" hot and it's taking it's toll on me and everyone else... Can't even motivate myself to lift even a finger :D
Well, on to Tuesday, when it's the semi finale. In a few hours we will know who we have to play against, Ghana or Uruguay. Tomorrow is Germany - Argentina (quarter finale)...could be a promising match as well :)

Ah yes John, very exciting. IF Uruguay wins the penalty's, they won't have Suarez the next match. Would not be wrong for The Netherlands... But first the penalties :D

Can't wait ;) But first tomorrow, Germany - Argentina....should be nerve wrecking as well ;)

Oh dear, oh dear, we made it to the final on Sunday! Now it's wait and see who our opponent will be, Germany or Spain :D For the first time in 32 years, we made the finale again. Really strange that The Netherlands never ever won a worldcup, maybe this time we will :)
Well, after a nerve wrecking evening, it's time to go find my bed and have a peaceful, quiet night ;)
Wishing all of you a wonderful evening and sweet dreams for later,

Uh oh...in my first post in this thread I wrote that I thought that Spain was going to be a real candidate for the World Cup. How right I was...not knowing we ourselves would be the opponent  Hahahaha, now I wish I was wrong, would rather have played Germany instead of Spain. Spain is absolutely fabulous, current European Champion too :)
Well, one more match to go (if you don't count the one for 3rd place) and I finally will have "peaceful" evenings again :p

Their footwork was just so amazing. I'll be pulling for the Netherlands:) I do have many friends in Germany and if they would have won, I would have to remain neutral like the Swiss but since it's Spain I will be pulling for you Sas all the way. :D:p:)

I don't want to worry you Saskia but 'Paul the Octopus' in Germany has predicted that Spain will win the World Cup Final! Up to now he has correctly predicted all of Germanys results throughout the finals.
This is the first match that doesn't involve Germany so we have to hope that he has made his first mistake!;)
We shall be cheering for you anyway.

Hahahaha Linda, I saw it, Paul is a real star here ;) But there's a parakeet in Singapore that predicts The Netherlands will win :D :D :D
In all honesty, I think Spain is the better country, I did after all predict they would become the World Champion ;) But one never knows what may happen. I say there's a 30 % chance that The Netherlands may win...we'll just have to wait and see :)

I wish you all could be here to share in the amazing atmosphere :) There are 125 thousand  people (all dressed in orange) gathered on the Museum Square in Amsterdam to watch the match on 5 giant tv screens and just now a small plane dropped orange flowers on all those people :D And even if "we" don't win, everyone is already so happy with the results anyway...it's really heartwarming :)
I'll see if in the days to come, I can find some images to share, it is truly amazing to watch :) Even for me, and I am used to those "crazy orange fans " but this beats everything I ever saw happening :)
So, now I will be getting ready for one of the most exciting 1.5 hours in my life ;) Or who knows, even 2 hours or more :D

Oh no, extra time. Hope it doesn't go to penalties! I think they all need to calm down a bit, they are panicking and fouling too much.
Hope the next 30 minutes produces some goals.

Linda,
You are so right :) Way too many cards and way too tense...unfortunately finales tend to be that way. But today was, even for a final, pretty bad... Oh well, the Spanish deserved to win so it's okay by me :) I did after all predict they would become the worldchampion :D
So football is over but there's still the Tour de France ;) I am sportscrazy and enjoy watching most sports and the Tour being one of my most favorite events :D Still plenty for me to watch and enjoy :)

The Netherlands should still be proud that they made it into the finals:D:D:D:D There is always next time in 4 years ;)
