Jasmine was diagnosed with Cushings recently, and started Trilostane (5 mgs. - she's a 10 lb Maltese/Mix). My Vet wants to start her on a pretty low dose to see how she does. After the first 10 days, she had the ACTH, blood work and electrolytes checked, and so far so good. Her cortisol level came down slightly, but they didn't expect to see much after the first 10 days. She gets tested again in 4 weeks, and then again in 3 mos. I was so nervous even starting her on this medication.

As she has other issues - high blood pressure and kidney issues for a few years now (she's also on benazipril and prescription diet), it pretty much showed up on her tests that are done every three months, plus the increase in water drinking, urinating and the hunger. So, the next steps were the tests and the ultrasound to check her adrenal glands.

I must absolutely love this site. Everybody here is so knowledgeable. So glad I found it. :)

Greetings and yes, welcome to the club! Its one of those places you don't really want to join but once you do... well... you are glad you did and you just can't leave. :D:o:D

Glad you are off to a good start. I can't help with trilo questions but can you please share with us the results of the acth tests? It helps track progress. If you don't have copies, you will want to get them and keep track... it comes in handy in the future. And it is best to start at a lower dose and work your way up if needed.

So tell us about Jasmine's story! Glad you found us. Kim

Oh no. I just wrote a lengthy response and the new kitten just walked on the keyboard and away it went. Lol.

Jasmine sees her Vet for blood tests, etc. every three months, because she has had high blood pressure and kidney issues for a while now. Cushings has been suspected for a while, but she hasn't really had any physical symptoms until recently; the increase in water intake, the increase in urinating and the ravenous appetite. I brought her in and the tests begun. I don't know the exact numbers, but our Vet contacted a specialist in this area, and they went over everything, and through all the appropriate testing, and the ultrasound, it was confirmed. Jasmine has been through a lot. About 3 years ago, she had a Mast Cell tumor, and had to have surgery twice. Twice because the first Vet treated the surgery like it was just a simple tumor removal. She didn't have it staged (how were suppose to know how to treat it without staging it?), or any of the lymph nodes checked, so we took Jasmine to a Veterinary Oncologist who determined that although it hadn't spread, the appropriate margins were not taken, and she had to have the surgery redone - and that was a big deal because they had to remove not only the old primary area, but more tissue had to be taken. It was a good move, because there were mast cells remaining in her primary surgicial site. So, having had a mast cell tumor and the other issues, we are pretty vigilant with her.

Hi.

Corky and I would also like to welcome you and Jasmine.

Corky's IMS started his treatment of Trilo at a low dose, also. So far, after his follow-up stim tests, he has remained on that dosage for 5 months.

I'm sorry that Jasmine is having these issues.

You have found a wonderful group of very caring, supportive members, who have a great wealth of knowledge. They have really helped me get through many issues with Corky.

I wish you and Jasmine the best.
