This is a poll to help new members get an idea of what the cost are involved with the diagnosis and on going monitoring of K9cushings via the ACTH Stimulation test.

Information on this test can be found in our Resources Forum:
http://www.k9cushings.com/forum/showthread.php?t=217

Choice 1 – Choose the price range you have paid
Choice 2 – Choose whether the test was performed by a IMS (Internal Medicine Specialist) or a GP (General Practitioner Vet)

I live in Canada, Hamilton, Ontario and pay approximatly $95 for a stim test.
At first the vet insisted on getting a pre, post 1h and post 2h reading and the test ended up costing approximatly $145. Since the vet was never able to convince me of any diagnostic value of the 1h draw I am now only getting a pre and post 2h done which helps greatly with the overall costs.
So far we have done 6 stim tests in 6 months with number 7 scheduled for next Tuesday - yikes.

We used to pay more than $200 for an ACTH stim, and that was back a few years ago before the price of Cortrosyn went sky-high. The cost for an ACTH stim became even higher than that when the cost of Cortrosyn went up, and eventually, my dog's Specialist started using Synacthen instead of Cortrosyn, to try to lessen the cost of ACTH stim testing for us. Synacthen is a similar type of stimulating agent (to Cortrosyn) that costs much less and works just as well, in her opinion.

(Synacthen, made by Novartis, is the usual stim agent in the UK for ACTH stim testing in small animals)

My vet also uses synthecyn, as it's cheaper and they cannot get the other anymore. It cost me $107 for a stim test. Pre draw and then post draw at 2 hours.
