Unhappy Biscuit - just been diagnosed

I’m so glad I found this forum. Biscuit my 3 yo cocker spaniel was diagnosed with Cushings on Friday. She’s being referred to an expert clinic and we are taking her for a scan tomorrow to ascertain which type and her best course of treatment.
She’s always been a dog that pants a lot and is something I’ve questioned my vet about on numerous occasions.
Recently she’s been peeing in the house which is really unusual for her and at the start I put it down to us moving house and a behavioural problem.
But I know my dog and I knew something just wasn’t right so I started to read up on it. I took her to see the vet and they assured me it probably wasn’t Cushings. Blood tests were done and everything came back normal. So I then insisted they go ahead and start the test to see if Cushings was the cause. I would love to have been wrong but I wasn’t.
I’m absolutely terrified about what the referral vet will say tomorrow after her scan. This darling girl had open heart surgery at 12 weeks old and the thought of going through another crisis with her is heartbreaking.

Hi and welcome to you and Biscuit!

OMGoodness, open heart surgery at such a very young age, poor girl had a tough start in life. I'm glad she has such a wonderful Mom to take care of her. Does she have any heart issues now? It would be a huge help to us if you could post the results of all tests that were done on Biscuit, you need only to include those values that are abnormal with the reporting units and reference ranges...thanks! Was Biscuit checked for an UTI? Is her urine diluted?

Cushing's is a treatable disease and with treatment dogs with Cushing's can have a good quality of life and there is every reason to believe that they can live out their normal life span. However, for the treatment to work safely and successfully it requires an educated pet owner along with an experienced vet as adverse side effects are mostly seen when the proper protocols are not followed, so I encourage you to browse through our Helpful Resource Forum in this way you can be armed with the proper treatment protocols and medicines used for this disease. Here's a handy link to our Helpful Resource Forum Helpful Resources for Owners of Cushing's Dogs

I am happy you found your way here and we will walk this journey with you and Biscuit. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask them.

Hi and welcome to and Biscuit!

I have a few questions to add to Lori's comment - is the urination the only sign you are seeing? Any changes in appetite, energy level, skin, exercise tolerance, agility, breathing, sleep pattern? Any other changes you have noticed over the last year?

Open heart surgery at such a young age! How scary for you both! How lucky she is to have you on her side...both then and now. One of the most important factors in successfully dealing with Cushing's is our knowledge and attention to the changes our babies may experience. Having already faced a serious illness, I believe you will have those things down very soon. We learn from each of these ordeals we have to face with our babies and each one makes us more prepared should anything else ever come up. And this time you have a new family to help you along the way! We will be with you every step of this journey.

I'm glad you found us and look forward to learning more as time passes!
    Hugs,
    Leslie

Hello and welcome to you and Biscuit.

What did the scan show? What did the expert say (I am guessing this was a Internal Medicine Specialist?)

What test did you do for cushings and what were those results?
