Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that Patches isn't well. What did the specialists say after the conferred?

Hi there,

Sorry, I have not been on here as I thought is was only for Cushing's... and I have been very busy taking care of my boy. I still can't seem to post a picture.

His has declined pretty rapidly. He is receiving his 2nd weekly amino acid infusion today and I will go pick him up shortly. He is on a lot of meds now, he's lost a lot of weight and is being force fed. New blood tests today say that his anemia is getting worse, low end of norm is 36, 1 month ago he was at 29, today he is at 25. It is the non-regenerative type.

Hepatocutaneous Syndrome is rare and it is harsh! It's been very difficult to watch his decline. I'm sure Cushing's is underlying as he doesn't have much fur left... but that is secondary to the liver disease. Prognosis is currently guarded.

I just can't seem to make the call when I still see brightness in his eyes from time to time... he will let me know when he is ready.

Oh gosh, I am unfamiliar with Hepatocutaneous Syndrome but it sounds like it's a horrible thing to go through. I feel for you and for Patches. Guarded is better than nothing when it comes to prognosis. How are things this week? When will they know if treatment is working? What are they looking for in signs that there is an improvement?

I guess we all learn as we go on here.

Hi Sharlene,

Patches had his 3rd amino acid infusion yesterday and I have been told it is working. He is better in some regards but others not so much. It is very difficult to get him to eat and he has lost about 4 lbs, so is now weighing in at about 12.5 lbs... way too thin.
He has lost a lot of fur... there is now bare skin in a lot of areas and where there is still fur it's not enough to cover his skin. I believe this piece would is because of the Cushing's as I haven't read or been told anything about Hepocutaneous Syndrome doing that.

On a happier note, I was able to take my boy on a half hour walk a couple of days ago... it was very slow... but we did it! I have not been able to take him on a walk in 4 months because he just hasn't been well enough.

Aww Jennifer, I’m so terribly sorry to read this news. You and your little boy fought so bravely to remain together; I can only imagine how badly your heart must be hurting today.
